Would you judge people travelling abroad for a holiday?

Just that. My DH really wants to travel abroad for a holiday, probably on the ferry to France. I can’t help but think people would be very disapproving and am nervous telling my boss (I would have to mention it as people would get a foreign ringtone if they tried to ring me during my annual leave).
So…would you judge?

No I wouldn’t

Makemineamediumone · 22/07/2021 16:57

Yes, buts that's based on the small sample of ppl I know who areGrin

Sunbelievable · 22/07/2021 17:00

Yes. I would.

Divebar2021 · 22/07/2021 17:03

No I wouldnt judge but I wouldn’t want to hear any complaints if you ended up with an unexpected situation because of rule changes or everything was shut.

FMSucks · 22/07/2021 17:05

Nope, not at all. In fact, can you fit me in your suitcase please? Grin

AntiWorkBrigade · 22/07/2021 17:07

No, but completely agree with pp - I have no patience with people that complain about rules changing and inconveniencing them, and found this quite maddening last year. We all know the situation is unpredictable and it’s why most of us aren’t risking it. If you do take the risk it’s just that.

Puppalicious · 22/07/2021 17:14

Ha, you definitely wouldn’t hear any complaints, I would be keeping the head down! @Makemineamediumone why what are the people like who are going abroad. Thinking of booking next week to reduce chance of rule change and also give me lots of time if quarantine is brought in (although in reality we would probably just try to rush back).

I don't understand why anyone would judge? The variant is here, it's rife, going abroad is hardly going to increase our numbers dramatically with testing etc. I would get why someone wouldn't understand people go away atm with the stress of testing etc, but judging? Weird. We are due to go in a few weeks, maybe!

Puppalicious · 22/07/2021 17:15

Give me lots of time before school comes back I mean. Just for wary of telling work because I have a very “responsible” job and wonder would this count as a mark against me.

Yes

I just can’t understand taking the risk of being a disease vector across the world without a really good reason.

MaintainingPositivity · 22/07/2021 17:16

I wouldn't judge, but I also wouldn't want to hear complaints if the rules change.

ParkheadParadise · 22/07/2021 17:17

No, I wouldn't judge.

AliceMcK · 22/07/2021 17:19

I judge those who have decided to travel abroad then complain about the constant changes as they are complete idiots to think everything is magically all ok again.

If someone decides they want to travel and deal with and changes without bitching and moaning then I wouldn’t judge them.

Greytminds · 22/07/2021 17:20

Definitely wouldn’t judge. You’re free to do what the rules permit you to do. Just be mindful of worst case scenario rule changes and ensure that you won’t impact others if they do change!

Holidaycittage · 22/07/2021 17:23

Cos of course it isn't in any other country yet is it, oh wait a minute...

Puppalicious · 22/07/2021 17:23

@name6785 are you in Ireland? In Ireland there has been a lot of judging about travel. There should be no testing involved as we are doubled vaccinated and our kids are under 11.
Yes @Makemineamediumone this is where a lot of the judging is based on. But if people are vaccinated at what stage does it become ok again?

You know they've already got covid overseas?
MadMadMadamMim · 22/07/2021 17:26

Yes. I can't see why you would think your desire for a holiday abroad was worth the possible risk to other people.

This has been one of the problems from the start - people continually travelling across international borders and spreading a virus which has proved devastating. Both in health terms to many and in economic, emotional and social terms.

I'd wonder what was so fucking desperate that you couldn't just holiday at home for this year and why you thought you were special. It's divisive, isn't it? Many people will argue that you are entitled to a holiday/fed up with all these restrictions.

Other people will think you are selfish and silly for ignoring reasonable precautions against continually spreading a disease that can have devastating effects.

Nohomemadecandles · 22/07/2021 17:26

I wouldn't judge. Are you ok to isolate from work? Or wfh?

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/07/2021 17:26

No judgment. Hats off to anyone with the nerves of steel needed to cope with the ever-changing rules and inevitable stress about testing. I'm gagging for a holiday but am a bit of an overthinker, and don't think I'd be able to relax fully with everything being conditional on testing.

hellcatspangle · 22/07/2021 17:27

No, I'd be happy they were keeping holiday businesses going. I can't be doing with the faff myself!

name6785 · 22/07/2021 17:29

Yes. I can't see why you would think your desire for a holiday abroad was worth the possible risk to other people.

What risk exactly? Covid is rife in the UK, the one group of people you can guarantee getting pinged for isolation before they've had chance to spread it any where are holiday goers due to all the testing requirements.

Roselilly36 · 22/07/2021 17:29

I wouldn’t judge personally, if they think it worth the hassle & expense of testing/quarantine go for it. But I did laugh when I saw a friend on fb, with a frame around their photo with the text “Stay home, save lives” and were are they the moment? On holiday abroad! 🤣

Slimmingstar · 22/07/2021 17:29

I’m booked to go to Croatia for my honeymoon next Monday. Fingers and toes are crossed. Judge away!

name6785 · 22/07/2021 17:31

@Puppalicious no, UK. We are randomly tested on arrival to Greece as double vaxxed, but need to LFT before getting on the plane home and PCR on day 2 as it's amber. Seems sufficient to me.
