Blood test advice

Hi all, I’m new to ROI and need some advice on how the medical services here work.

I saw a consultant recently who requested I get some blood tests done. I was referred by a GP I had a video consult with via my DHs health insurance company. I’ve not registered with a GP yet as I’m still waiting on my PPS number. I’ve been told the tests will be over €1000 through the hospital I saw the consultant (Hermitage Clinic). Are there other places I could get these done? Also the consultant said I could get them done through my GP once I’m registered, how dose this work? Do I just call up once I have my PPs number and registered? I’m assuming I still pay?

Thanks

I would like to book an appointment at local GP. They will see you without PPS no. As standard they charge around €50 or €60. They can then send bloods off - in my experience this part is free.

That's mad money for blood tests considering if you get them through a GP you just pay the €50 - €70 consultation fee plus the €10 additional fee so many GPs charge for blood tests.

At the moment it's only emergency bloods that are being tested because of the Russian hackers. DH was at his GP this week for bloods and has to wait until regular blood testing resumes, GP thinks that will be in around 2 weeks time.

My GP surgery has a nurse who does blood tests.
Cancelled lately, probably due to HSE hacking.
