NHS vasectomy waiting list in NI?

Does anyone know what the wait is like on the NHS for a vasectomy in NI? Debating paying privately if it's very long.

We where told 6-9 months. Had pre op before covid hit and nothing since

My husband waited nearly three years for his!

This was Pre covid as well, so can only imagine what the waiting lists are like now.

Oh my goodness! Private it is then!

Bear in mind it's not just the op - DH had his op pre covid, then you've to wait a while then produce a 'sample' to be tested before you can stop using contraception. Poor DH has had all the pain, none of the benefits as hospital aren't doing the sample testing at the moment and haven't been for a year!

Something I hadn't considered at all Pootles. Are they able to test the samples if you go privately,or is it halted across the board?

I'm afraid I don't know - we're just using NHS. I would imagine a private hospital would offer a full service if they're doing vasectomies - I'd be quite surprised if not.

My dh had it done privately...they did the no- scalpal method. No pain, no bruising and no days off work! Sample given 12 weeks later. All good!

Been waiting three years here (Belfast trust), heard they were doing the no scalpel method in some GP surgeries in northern trust pre-covid though that’s probably stopped now.

Any idea on cost of private or where to go?

@mummyof2boys30 we're in rep of Ireland and I think it cost €600 all in.

I'm being quoted about £1k for Hillsborough private clinic or the Ulster independent.

@Smashmallow good to know! Considering private also though know someone recently who had referral sept and a call in oct to get done! During COVID though was a cancellation I believe
