I can’t sleep for thinking about this case. He was a learner driver, driving unaccompanied and texting on his phone, and he kills this beautiful child and gets 2 years in prison which means he’ll be out in 12 months.

Maybe it’s the effects of reading about the Sarah Everett case, and all the associated anger and fear that women carry, but my first thought was would he have got a longer sentence if he had killed a boy child instead?

I cannot understand how a 14 year old girl can die and so many of the news reports are written as if he was the victim?

Don’t diminish the movement by making tenuous links like this.

I am sick of "soft sentencing" in Ireland.
Judge Johnson said "...... some might feel the sentence is too lenient......"
Too blo*dy right it's too lenient. Sad

My deepest sympathy to Aoife's family and friends.

RIP Aoife 💐

Was it his car? I find it hard to believe a young man could get insurance on an SUV in his own name, maybe I’m out of touch there.

If it was a family member’s car and they were letting him drive it unaccompanied then they are also partly to blame imo.

The IT article starts calling him “Doyle” halfway through... His name is Dunne and Aoife’s family name is Doyle. Poor show Irish Times.

My DH's 15 year old brother was killed years ago by a drink diver mounting the pavement and the killer got less than 12 months.

It is appalling - that life means so little as far as the courts are concerned (and government as they set the sentencing guidelines)

I'll give my vote to any party that shows it will be tough on crime ( or can prove that it is).
The majority of people are decent.
The minority that cause crime are getting too light sentences.

DH nephew was killed by a van mounting the pavement with a high high curb back before automatic breathe tests. Was blamed on inexperience and no charges brought SadAngry

Cars are potential killing machines and drivers should be held to higher accountability than they currently are.
