We have the best crisps both North and South of the border. There I've said it. Just doing my sister up a wee box from home and the usual requests for potato bread, soda bread are there. But also a lot of crisps lol. Forget home many they can't get in England. She wants meanies, hunky dory, tayto North and South including different flavoues(and anything else my local shop does)

You are correct though you may start a riot here.

Has she tried the O'Donnell's range....with cheese and onion or the ready salted ones. Oh. My. God.

Newchances · 10/02/2021 18:07

Have you had odonnells Ballymoe relish and cheddar cheese? Love these!

I’m a Scot - hope you don’t mind me joining in. I love crisps and this post is making me want to visit you even more... I thought my crisp travels couldn’t get any better than’Lays’ in Spain, but these flavours sound great. I can’t enjoy my wine without a nice packet of crisps - and ideally no crisps without wine...
If we’re allowed to travel this summer in U.K., do you think Northern Ireland at least will let us in and would we be welcome d’you think?

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2021 00:47

Are we allowed to post food to the UK? I could send you some Tayto cheese and onion @EvelynBeatrice. Best crisps in the world. The real Irish Tayto that is not the pretendy NI version Grin

Onynx · 11/02/2021 00:48

And Keoghs salt & vinegar crinkly crisps- divine!!

MarDhea · 11/02/2021 09:29

I agree about Keogh's crisps... mmm.

I used to be a strict fan of Kings for cheese and onion, but Keogh's are as good with no MSG in the ingredients so win-win!

MarDhea · 11/02/2021 09:30

And I was delighted to find out that chickatees don't have MSG either - hurray!

I can now pretend they're healthy Grin

wellthatsunusual · 11/02/2021 09:32

What? HunkyDories aren't available elsewhere? Shock

How does the rest of the world live with such poor crisp options? The poor poor souls.

EvelynBeatrice · 11/02/2021 09:52

I so want to try a HunkyDory ....
I have been stress baking during this latest lockdown. I’ve tried a different cake every week; fortunately my family eat most of it so I don’t put on too much weight; besides, you need a bit of extra fat of a winter, don’t you?!
What I’ve realised though is that I’d give up sweet stuff - chocolate and cake - easily enough, but you’ll have to prise my savoury snacks - M & S cool tortilla Chips with sour cream and chive dip - out of my cold dead hands......

EvelynBeatrice · 11/02/2021 09:54

And thanks for the offer JaneJeffer but I will wait till I can eat em in situ. I have to tell myself I’ll be able to travel again soon.....

Why doesn’t Scotland have its own good crisps, eh? (Scotch) Whisky flavour etc... and does it annoy you like it does me when people don’t spell Irish whiskey properly ....

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2021 12:00

New business idea for you Evelyn? You could go on Dragon's Den with Scottish flavoured crisps Grin

EvelynBeatrice · 11/02/2021 16:58

Yup. I so could. My heart would certainly be in it, not to mention my tum.
Do you get Tunnocks biscuits in Ireland? Caramel wafers, logs and tea cakes? Famous Scottish biscuit brand. Saw them in USA two years ago going down a storm in Harry Potter bit of Universal Studios.
What about Barr’s Irn Bru?

KatyaZamolodchikova · 11/02/2021 17:01

FYI cheese & onion Taytos are available in the international food section in Morrisons in my part of the U.K. at least. I’ve had to stop buying them because I can’t stop eating them and was on at least one packet a day (often times two packets a day...)

Backtotheremedy · 11/02/2021 17:05

I live in Essex and Home Bargains has started stocking some Tayto. It was a very happy day in this house when I brought them home.

PizzasTonight · 11/02/2021 17:09

Hope you don’t mind an English person posting.
I got Taytos from Morrison’s (my Irish boss told me to try them). They were fabulous. Sadly I’ve not found them recently - so jealous.

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2021 17:37

We can get Tunnocks here. No IrnBru though.

Do Tayto realise they could be raking it in on the British market?

wellthatsunusual · 11/02/2021 17:44

You can get Irn Bru north of the border Smile

wellthatsunusual · 11/02/2021 17:45

I though I do miss the finest Scottish foodstuff of all, McEwans Highland Toffee. 5p for a small bar or 10p for a big one. Some time ago, obviously...

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2021 18:10

I used to love Callard & Bowser butterscotch.

Newchances · 11/02/2021 20:08

You can get iron bru here.

Also found out meanies aren't available everywhere??

FionaMacCool · 11/02/2021 22:40

Newchances I havent tried the O'Donnells Ballymaloe ones.... I just dont fancy the sound of them. I was brought up to believe that one pack of cheese and onion Taytos a week, was a major treat, and I havent strayed far from that.

However, I shared a pack of the Keogh's Shamrock flavoured ones....those are now my second favourites. .

Evelyn Lays are nice but realistically, I'd rather stuff my suitcase with Tayto or O'Donnells whenever we are ever allowed on a plane again.
Tunnocks teacakes are a reason to move to Scotland...if you'd just desist from all other crisp brands outside of Tayto, Keoghs and O'Donnell's.

LemonDrizzle44 · 13/02/2021 19:16

I live in Kent. I love the Irish section in morrisons. Tayto cheese and onion, Barry's tea bags (best tea!) and club orange 🤤😋 can't beat them. Wish they would sell hunky dory's cheese and onion though!!!

DeeThree · 13/02/2021 21:01

Keogh's Chorizo and Cherry Tomato are amazing!
Also, gotta love Hunky Dory Buffalo flavour- yum, yum!!!

Cyberattack · 14/02/2021 19:50

Anyone know where you can get Clonakilty sausages in the UK? Ocado used to do them but now only do the pudding.

LeSlogo · 14/02/2021 20:08

@cyberattack- you can get Clonakilty ispiní in Sainsburys now...only the half pound ones but fabulous!
