Vaccinations in Ireland

What’s the situation with vaccine distribution in Ireland right now? I came on here to Craicnet especially to ask because my elderly parents & family and friends I ask seem to have no info so am wondering if we’re in the dark or if there just isn’t info at the moment.

Will elderly people all get a letter automatically from their doctor setting them up with an appointment or will they have to ring to set one up, do you think? Parents are both 80 so I’m desperate for them to get vaccinated and keep checking headlines in Ireland but am just wondering if I’m missing some info. In the news so far I read that healthcare workers and nursing home residents are still being vaccinated. When do you think the Irish government will be able to vaccinate the elderly in general?

Thanks for any info you all can share. I’m far away in the US so feeling worried about them all the time - they will NOT stay away from the church Angry and still insist on getting their own shopping no matter how many times I tell them. I even set them up with broadband to let them order shopping online and watch Mass but still they won’t listen Confused... would be such peace of mind to know they got vaccinated.

No clear information as it’s not fully planned out yet sadly. Next in line to be vaccinated are the 85+ age group. They will be contacted by their GPs according to the HSE website here:

HSE Vaccine rollout

I assume it will be the same for the next category (80-85) as there is no inkling of anything different happening just yet, but could well be wrong on this.

I have also seen GPs tweeting not to call them re vaccines - they will call you.

GP Buddy is a good Twitter account to follow as it provides up to date info on what GPs have been told.

Great info, thanks for this @Blogdog. I was worried I was missing something. Here in the US, people my age are having to call and make appointments for their elderly parents and figure out online systems for them so I want to make sure if I need to do that for my parents in Ireland I can figure it out. Looks like it'll be a while yet though so I will keep an eye on the HSE website for more info.

Thanks!

If your parents' GP has a website check it. My dad's GP will be texting patients. Another relative can be nominated if the patient isn't tech savvy.

I hope your parents aren't in Celbridge as one GP there is refusing to vaccinate his patients. He won't inject anything in his patients' arms that he wouldn't inject into his own. He's not getting the vaccine.
It was on Joe Duffy yesterday.

Very slow roll out of vaccine compared to UK. The government should be morto !
