@Smurf123

Peter weir will likely declare school children and teachers immune and refuse to agree to their closures Angry
He's a spineless twat with his fingers in his ears singing la la la
Lipz · 17/12/2020 18:20

Our other 3 schools have decided to close from tomorrow, so that's 5 of our schools finishing up early. That Nora one would send the kids into a burning building! Glad our principals are making their own decision.

That whole situation with the kerry school is disgraceful, I'd be livid if my children went there. Now alot of kids will miss Christmas, plus who else have they passed it on to who is vulnerable . Parents sent their children in, in good faith. And to make matters even worse, Nora is still insisting that schools have not been affected.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/12/2020 19:11

Honestly I dont see the point in insisting schools remain open next week. It's not even 2 full days. It would've been a nice gesture if nothing else to close them.
They dont seem to be as safe as the government want us believe.

TheKeatingFive · 17/12/2020 19:15

A nice gesture to teachers perhaps.

But not to all the kids who have missed plenty of school already and the parents who’ve already organised their leave.

I was thinking more about parents and children. It's one and a half days not weeks or months. One and a half days where they wont be doing work just cleaning, watching films and eating junk Why not give them the extra time to Isolate so they can see family at Christmas. The children are all exhausted and excited for Christmas as well.
anomletteandaglassofwine · 17/12/2020 20:39

The situation in the North is really worrying, all the hospitals operating above capacity and they've asked for paramedics from the south to help out over the weekend.

It's not great down here either, cases going up and everyone confused about what we should/should not do. We've decided not to see ILs in their 80s who have been isolating since March, and MIL is not happy about it as she was expecting the whole family, DC and GDC, 25 of us on Stephen's Day!

It will just be us and my DM on Christmas Day, which leaves uncles and cousins on their own. It's really sad but I just feel we u can't have vulnerable elderly relatives here along with teens who are currently in school/uni, on public transport daily, etc. Even if we wear masks in the house as they were talking about today, the risk is too high.

DJ and I are trying to be upbeat with the DC but it's all a bit crap really isn't it?

7Days · 17/12/2020 20:41

Does anyone know if I send a parcel on Monday to a different county will it arrive on time?

hopeishere · 17/12/2020 20:49

In time for Christmas? Unlikely.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 17/12/2020 20:51

I doubt it @7Days, it took a week for a parcel from Dublin to Galway. Posted last Friday and it only got there today.

mrsfeatherbottom · 17/12/2020 21:52

You might have more luck with a courier
halfpasteleven · 17/12/2020 22:15

I know a card posted to me took a week from one county to another!
Maybe try a courier as PP has suggested ..

7Days · 17/12/2020 23:08

Thanks for the answers. Feck it anyway

TheKeatingFive · 17/12/2020 23:15

Well pull them out if you want to. What’s anyone going to do about it? My DS is most definitely going in.

veeeeh · 18/12/2020 01:25

God what is happening in NI.

Tragic times but I have no doubt that ROI will help where they can. Could be a game changer for the hardline Arlene types.

Cantbelievelife · 18/12/2020 07:37

Keep them open. 2 days leave again is too much my hospital is at capacity if all parents took off we would crumble

LadyEloise · 18/12/2020 09:38

Why is the situation so bad in the North ?
Do people just ignore the advice from health professionals?

Candoolili · 18/12/2020 12:03

@LadyEloise the mind boggles! I live up North though and I honestly don’t think it’s as simple as people’s behaviour, mask wearing etc, it’s more about timing of interventions (lockdowns) and differences in testing procedures / categorisation of covid deaths etc

Candoolili · 18/12/2020 12:04

Covid 19 has resulted in some distasteful overly simplistic and frankly xenophobic theories re cases rising in countries and I don’t think any hold weight

halfpasteleven · 18/12/2020 12:57

I hope the health system up north can cope. It's distressing to hear of ambulances lined up outside A & E.
Looks like new restrictions for ROI before New Years too according to news on the radio.

LadyEloise · 18/12/2020 14:51

I'd say we'll be locked down in tandem with the North. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

LadyEloise · 18/12/2020 18:12

Almost 600 cases today - Shock

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/12/2020 18:14

It has gone up very quickly!

7Days · 18/12/2020 20:21

What do you think of another lockdown kicking in on the 28th? Hard on publicans etc. My cousin has been limping along for the last few years with a country pub. This will be the end for him he thinks.
Though his mother is elderly and not in the best of health.
In effect he has to choose between his livelihood and his mum. Well he doesnt have to choose, the govt is doing it and I suppose no matter what decision they make he can externalise to an extent

SionnachRua · 18/12/2020 20:43

They can fuck off with their lockdowns is what I think. Endless misery being heaped on people but that's ok cos Covid.

hopeishere · 18/12/2020 22:30

I think there was a lot of complacency and now people don't give a shit.
