I don't believe it, would it ever go away!

I wonder if they are planning a longer break it is a balancing act with many parents depending on school and creche for child care.
Closing puts people out of work at the same time numbers are to high.

thelegohooverer · 23/10/2020 19:15

Normally I’d be looking forward to the break but I think I’m still working through the trauma of the lockdown Grin I’m not feeling the holiday vibe at all.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/10/2020 20:34

I'm relieved to have the break. We did well to get this far! I'm not looking forward to the next couple of months.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/10/2020 20:36

Great to see the numbers coming down today (though not in the north Sad )

Maybe if the numbers continue to drop we'll only have a 4 week lockdown instead of 6??

EmeraldShamrock · 23/10/2020 21:12

Yes hopefully it is reduced to 4 weeks I'm also delighted with some breathing time. November and December is a scary thought.
NI is getting worse what is going on?

Procrastination4 · 23/10/2020 23:34

We sent English, Irish and Maths books home with all of our children today. The reason behind it was that we don’t want to be caught out like last time if the government suddenly decides to keep the schools closed for a week (or more) after midterm. We explained this to the children today, and also told them that we really hoped we’d all be back as usual on the 2nd November. I really hope my class remembers to bring all books back! Will be sending message to parents/guardians via Aladdin on the 1st November, just in case...

hopeishere · 24/10/2020 08:28

I think there's about another 7/8 days of rising / steady cases in the north before they are expected to drop. There is a 21 day lag between taking action and it having an effect.

I agree with a pp - imagine if we had the resources to test everyone on one day to get the turn number of cases. Also we need accurate antibody tests and saliva Covid tests so it is much simpler to do.

eggandonion · 24/10/2020 12:52

I think people are scared of the invasive testing. I don't know if any others work properly. I'd like to know how many people have had covid, but it seems not too many more than the official numbers.
The percentage of positive tests in the north was very high yesterday.
I wonder are women more likely to be tested, being used to smears and other gynae procedures. There is a good dissertation topic!

Will schools up north definitely open after midterm or switch to online learning?

hopeishere · 24/10/2020 14:31

I think there will be a week on online learning and then possibly a week in / week out until Christmas.

321mamma · 24/10/2020 14:50

That's tough, fingers crossed it all goes OK...

Smurf123 · 24/10/2020 17:52

@321mamma as a teacher up north.. (2 teachers 1ca from 3 different schools in my household) none of us have any idea. Dh is secondary and his school have everything in place for online learning. Dbro is primary and reckons at least keyworkers and vulnerable will be back but possibly online for others
I'm early years sen.. I honestly don't know if we will be back. Many of our kids are medically highly vulnerable but also need the routine of school.
But according to Peter weir coronavirus doesn't spread in schools 😖 worrying statistics yesterday to see there's been cases in 76% of schools in the Belfast Council area.

Iblinkedandiamold · 24/10/2020 18:30

I dont have any faith in numbers anymore. They seem to be going down but then I read that a lab stopped testing because they didnt have enough staff. How many other labs are under pressure. How do we know that they are not hiding the true numbers from schools and creche's in order to keep them open? I mean they most likely aren't but you never know do you.
Anyway I am looking forward to the week off. I hope it's not longer than that.

Lipz · 24/10/2020 19:56

Very annoying seeing FB awash with pics of house parties tonight. WTF is wrong with people!!! I just normally click off and ignore but I lost it with my niece and her and her massive gang of cronies all pouting and sticking their boobs into the camera, I mean, these are 30 odd year olds!!! Needles to say her mother just posted to me to mind my own fucking business that it's good for her mental health!! Yeah this is coming from the person who has flown here 4 times since March and broke every rule possible. I fucking hope they all get it and suffer...

EmeraldShamrock · 24/10/2020 21:10

I haven't noticed parties though all the DC are mixing households playing on the street as normal. In March you could hear a pin drop.

Iblinkedandiamold · 24/10/2020 22:11

My afterschoolers are saying they are still going to lay outside because they are together all day in school and afterschool all day anyway. They have a point.

halfpasteleven · 24/10/2020 23:12

It's not very reassuring how they handled the sanitizer issue is it? Apparently they knew since Tuesday about it but nobody told the schools until v late Thursday night... and no sign of either minister (education and agriculture) today to explain anything...

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/10/2020 23:17

I know, halfpasteleven. They didn't consider it as an urgent matter at all. Informing principals very late on Thursday night!

halfpasteleven · 24/10/2020 23:21

I hate the secrecy. What could have possibly delayed them telling the schools on time?! Where are their priorities?

EmeraldShamrock · 25/10/2020 08:59

My afterschoolers are saying they are still going to lay outside because they are together all day in school and afterschool all day anyway. They have a point
They do have a point but it is hardly the same.
My DS has a friend who's father lives with 10 men in a filthy house he stays at weekends, another DC with a family of 6 DC.
Plus 10 or more other DC all from different class/school/household.
Wrestling hugging chasing .
If we're on a strict level 5 what is the point.
Adults are missing work, shops are closed, school is increasing the numbers.
Unless everyone plays a part it is a waste of time.

Iblinkedandiamold · 25/10/2020 11:23

That's what I explained to them EmeraldShamrock. They aren't going into houses just playing outside but still like you said they are playing together in close contact.
I hate the 5km rule, the forest where I walk is 10k away from me but I wont be going there until the limit is lifted. They are the rules.

eggandonion · 25/10/2020 13:54

Our local woods were busy when we arrived yesterday, a lot of local teenagers were doing a cross country run, parents were at their cars chatting.
What can one do, apart from state and tut, when outnumbered.

I see everyone is back out exercising. Could bearly pass anyone on the paths this morning with runners, walkers, dog walkers. Did all of these people go to gym's ? The last time I seen so many out exercising was the last lock down. I even seen one family in their garden all kitted out in work out gear doing star jumps and the mother shouting cheering them all to "COME ON SPREAD YOUR LEGS". 😂 I recognised her dh, I think I went out with him years ago.

eggandonion · 25/10/2020 19:33

Back in spring the people were leaping out of the way and moving single file. Now they are just mooching around, meeting people, cycling on footpaths, just being a nuisance. Except me!

Wonder if next Monday the numbers will go down because of mid term?

Well that will show them if so!

Anyway, this is our life for a long time to come. I am dubious about an effective vaccine, seems very rushed to me but whatever. I will take it for sure, but not on the first wave.
