Tipperary recommendations

We’re headed to Tipp next week for a few days - staying on the shores of Lough Derg.

It’s not an area we have been to before (coming down from the Nordy North) and looking for recommendations for restaurants or even takeaways. We’ll mainly be spending time outdoors - either on the water or walking in the forest etc - so not too bothered about activities (but any particularly good recommendations would be welcomed) - but keen to have some ideas on where to eat.

Family of 5 - kids ranging from 10-16 - all with a fairly developed palate for want of a better way of putting it - not particularly interested in bog standard chicken nuggets and chips kids options. Obviously will need to avoid surrounding counties due to local lockdowns!

Any suggestions very much appreciated

Are you near Ballina/Killaloe?
Killaloe is quite cosmopolitan.

No - sadly we’re not. We’re staying at Coolbawn Quay - not too far from Ballinderry I think

Oh you're at the top of the lake. I know the Nenagh/Killaloe end.
I've been at a wedding in Coolbawn - it's lovely. The Georgina Campbell guide might help?

Or the McKenna guides are usually helpful for naice food.

That’s hugely helpful. Thanks @EarlofEggMcMuffin.

Nenagh isn’t too far of a drive away so happy to head that direction. Killaloe seems to be a good bit of a longer drive

Country Choice in Nenagh is a lovely spot.

Or, it's about half an hour down to Killaloe, which has lots of galleries and artisanal food places

Do make sure you book restaurants before you go, we were in wexford last week and struggled to get tables in restaurants as our party was bigger than 4 - ended up cooking a lot more than we'd intended to.
