Well, what do we all think about the ASAI pulling the Tampax ad, having received a miserly 84 complaints?

AgnesNaismith · 31/07/2020 20:57

I think thank fuck for that, it was a disgrace.

Splitsunrise · 31/07/2020 23:05

Why did they pull it? I mean it was annoying but I never really listened to it properly...

JaneJeffer · 31/07/2020 23:43

It's ridiculous. Yes it's an annoying ad but nothing wrong with the information it provides. Anyway it's still on the British channels so it was all a bit pointless. Some people have little for doing!

userxx · 31/07/2020 23:45

"Pulling" brilliant. Yes, I'm immature 🤷‍♂️

slipperywhensparticus · 01/08/2020 00:21

Why? I mean its annoying but factually correct if you can feel it then its too low 🤷‍♀️

BuffaloMozzerella · 01/08/2020 00:22

It didn't bother me. And anything which normalises periods is a good thing for girls and women.

BananaPop2020 · 01/08/2020 00:26

It is a crass and horrible advert.

alexio · 01/08/2020 00:30

I've just watched it on YouTube, hasn't actually seen it on tv. I think it's a good advert for younger girls or women who aren't sure about their use or how to insert them and may not have anyone to ask or be too embarrassed to ask.

Just a thought though… what about all the adverts that go into detail about vaginal dryness? Or viagra products? Shouldn't these be removed too?

Joolsin · 01/08/2020 00:40

I agree that the ad is bad, the cringy talk show theme is so corny. But I strongly agree with the message it's trying to put across - the normalisation and reality of periods - not all the blue liquid/white hotpants nonsense that had been sanpro advertising before now. And I don't think the ad should have been taken off air.

They pulled it because, among other things, it was alleged to be "demeaning to women", "contained sexual innuendo", "offensive", "grotesque", and so on. I heard a woman on the radio today saying that periods aren't all rainbows and butterflies, and that's what you'd think if you saw the usual ads. I like that this ad is just practical and informative.

She's saying it better than I will.

I wear tampons. I have a vagina. I'm not offended.

LadyEloise · 01/08/2020 08:55

I really like Dr. Ciara.
I don't always agree with her, but usually do.
She must have been a great gp. Bet her patients are gutted she's given up and gone into media.
I'd like her to take over from Sean O Rourke on RTE1.
Or Ivan Yates. Grill those politicians- "No Crap Ciara"

bythebanksof · 01/08/2020 13:07

I that the ad was poorly done. However, it did attract a lot of attention, so by many metrics it was a success. Banning it is crazy.

Splitsunrise · 01/08/2020 16:36

What was the sexual innuendo??

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 01/08/2020 16:47

What was the sexual innuendo??

I assume the hand demonstration of how to insert the tampon?

PuppyMonkey · 01/08/2020 16:50

The sexual innuendo was because they’re talking about vaginas and therefore it must be about sex? Hmm

honeyrider · 02/08/2020 20:06

Sums it up

"Get 'em up there, girls"
Brissiegirl · 02/08/2020 20:20

Dont see any innuendo in it. Ot was factual. No better or worse than the ads where they pour blue liquid onto pads, or talk about vaginal dryness. Anyway, its got more coverage now than when it was in tv 😉

Iblinkedandiamold · 03/08/2020 19:32

I cant believe they pulled it over 84 complaints. The only thing that "offened" me is how tacky it is and how grating the woman was. I think you should have to get a lot more complaints before something is cancelled.

LadyEloise · 03/08/2020 23:26

I found it tacky and grating too but if it helps someone I've no problem with the ad itself.
