Why is RTE Player so incredibly rubbish?

I'm trying to watch RTE Does Comic Relief and it just doesn't play. Just doesn't! Not because it's buffering or anything, just not playing. This is the first time I've tried RTE Player in at least two years because anytime I've tried it before it has been intolerably glitchy, so it's not like there hasn't been time for them to make it work. Honestly, if YouTube can play millions of videos without a hitch then what is the fucking problem with RTE Player?

The new DG said it was a priority to fix. Well it's still shite.

They know well it's a poor service, but there are obviously a lot of problems behind the scenes. The complaints are ongoing. I just never use it for anything.

I left the window open and forgot about it, left the room and when I came back it was working. So I did get to watch it for a bit. Then the audio went out of time with the video, then the video froze but the audio continued, and it just kept being glitchy until I had to pause it to drop DD off somewhere. Then I came home and it refused to work again, so I gave up.

Yes, WHY is it so rubbish?
I pay my licence fee.
As you say, you can play videos on YouTube, Twitter, etc etc without glitching.

So what makes RTE so unspecial?
I want to watch Comic Relief.
I want to watch Normal People on catch-up.
I'll even suffer through some ads for it.
But, no.
Of all the apps on our TV, the RTE one is the one we never use.

It's unbelievably awful!! I have just given up. I'd rather pay for Netflix/sky/ buy the DVD than try it ever again!
