Is it just me or was that an absolutely excellent speech
Wouldn't have always been his biggest fan but he and the government have shown real leadership with all of this.

Excellent. He is showing real leadership and the contrast between him and Boris/Trump is stark.

Harp1977 · 17/03/2020 21:27

He was good, really confident and calm. He has s good bedside manner. And he did warn us of more to come. I liked his honesty

Crazycrazylady · 17/03/2020 21:31

I liked that too. He didn't sugar coat any of it including the economic fall out but d prefer that to pretending it was all done.

I hereby begin a petition to claim him for the nordy north too!

TaTuirseOrm · 17/03/2020 21:32

I absolutely sobbed my way through that, it's such a scary time.
I thought he did a great job, he usually umms and awws his way through speeches so was glad to see him speak so eloquently, especially at such seem important time.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 17/03/2020 21:34

He makes our “leaders” here in NI and mainland U.K. look like absolute chimps. I shed a tear during his speech. I wish he was in charge here.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 17/03/2020 21:35

SIGNED! @SlayingDragons

Galwaygirl · 17/03/2020 21:37

Very impressive speech, an honest and open speech with excellent delivery

Annasgirl · 17/03/2020 21:38

Yes I made the DC watch it with me as they think I am over reacting to this 😡 typical teens. I was so delighted that he talked directly to them. I think they all get it now. I cannot believe how blasé people in the UK (including our family in NI) are being.

Summerdiamond · 17/03/2020 21:39

I also thought he was very good. Told it like it was, it’s scary but needed to be said. I can’t believe the UK still isn’t taking this seriously.

youwouldthink · 17/03/2020 21:43

Absolutely great. He was genuine and emotional throughout. Didn't sugar coat anything and seemed so honest. Very glad he is there right now

notanotherpothole · 17/03/2020 21:44

SlayingDragons I'll sign. We need some leadership here!!!!

I also thought it was a great speech. Informative and calmly delivered. I think he and the government as a whole are showing true leadership throughout this. Frightening times indeed.

inisfree · 17/03/2020 21:55

I thought he was calm, authoritative and practical in his advice.

Hopeful we will get through this with as few casualties as possible.

15 yr old dd impressed that he spoke directly to her age group.

MysweetAudrina · 17/03/2020 21:58

I also expressed to dh that I was glad he was leading the Country through this. Still people on Fb calling him all sorts of stupid. Not sure they realise how lucky we are compared to what is happening in some other countries.

Inextremis · 17/03/2020 21:59

I was impressed, too. He came across as competent and compassionate. Great sense of community in the country right now.

Heygirlheyboy · 17/03/2020 22:04

Very impressed, rousing stuff. But did he get across the importance of staying in?

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 17/03/2020 22:04

He’s expecting there to be 15,000 cases by the end of the month. that’s 13 days from now. Sad he would say that unless he was pretty certain it was true.

OstrichRunning · 17/03/2020 22:08

I thought he was fantastic too. The Irish government have been very strong on C19 from the start - clear, coherent, evidence based, no sign of politics anywhere - everything that's important in a crisis like this. Just like they were with Brexit. I find myself wishing FG was a bit closer to where I am on the political spectrum; if they were my current problem re: who the hell to vote for anymore would be solved!

Heygirlheyboy · 17/03/2020 22:09

The fact that he is a doctor seems a great advantage in terms of true understanding.

Crazycrazylady · 17/03/2020 22:10

To be fair , there has been very little in the way of political point scoring from
The opposition at the moment which I'm really glad about.

SlayingDragons I’ll sign that petition. NI and UK politicians are embarrassing. Good to see such leadership and such humanity in his call for society to rise to meet the challenges ahead. Loved that he called the most vulnerable our most precious. That brought tears to my eyes thinking of my lonely 85 year old mum who looked so scared and sad this morning when we talked about the forthcoming isolation for the sick and elderly.

Mummyshark2018 · 17/03/2020 22:18

Fantastic speech and so reassuring for the Irish people.

Mummyshark2018 · 17/03/2020 22:20

Agree, and I like how he said 'cocooning' instead of isolating, such a more humane way of describing what needs to be done to protect our older people.
