Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland

The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

Yes Juan, younger ones gathered in Ward Park in Bangor too.
I saw it on FB too.

maidenover · 20/03/2020 18:56

I went out earlier for a socially distance bike ride, part of the route went past shops. I expected it to be really quiet but it wasn’t. My conclusion is that we’re absolutely fucked.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 20/03/2020 19:24

We are fucked. Someone posted on another thread comments from medical staff in some london hospitals. Fucking terrifying. People whingeing about not being able to get 5 months worth of toilet roll won’t know what’s hit them when this really gets here.

Hopefully @Cocolapew the police will be aware of their presence and shift them.

We had serious ASB issues in our town and surrounding villages over the last couple of months with teens basically running rings round the police. It was awful. One teen was actually killed due to their shenanigans. I’m dreading these next few months. I fully expect more of the same. Unless we have a police/military enforced lockdown.

LightACandleHoney · 20/03/2020 19:31

@Cocolapew Angry This makes me so mad. We’ve been self isolating since Tuesday as DD developed symptoms (and now I have the same symptoms) but the last time I was in Bloomfields it was dead. Have never seen it so quiet. It was a bit eerie to be honest. Felt really sad - but I was also really cheered that people were finally taking it seriously after the nonsense in Tescos/ASDA etc last week.

I can well believe the teens out at Crawfordsburn (esp with the weather today), but younger kids at Ward Park!!! What are their parents thinking?!

Smurf123 · 20/03/2020 19:43

That doesn't surprise me. We need to close the parks .. I've heard plenty of people saying they are going to meet friends at the park.

We haven't left the house since Saturday bar dh going to work.. Although we should both be a working from home now, and to get milk/ toddler snacks from the shop.. Most things we are trying to order online though.

Myshitisreal · 20/03/2020 20:03

Need to catch up but just letting you know Ireland is now showing on the worldometer graph www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/ireland/

I wish northern ireland had its own graph

7Days · 20/03/2020 20:24

Its interesting.
I've been nearly obsessive following this. The worldometer's graph is the first place I have seen there are 5 recoveries.
Not to dismiss ot belittle. But it is also a very important statistic.

Cocolapew · 20/03/2020 20:30

Ards and North Down council have closed the play parks as of this evening.
LightACandle I hope you and DD are ok x

Dk20 · 20/03/2020 20:32

@7days
The recoveries are also shown on the Google map.
4 of the recoveries are the family from clare/limerick who were of the first in Ireland. Cant remember where the last recovery is, but I do agree it is important to note the number of recoveries

Dk20 · 20/03/2020 20:34

Just checked, the last recovery was a person discharged from cuh on 11 march

7Days · 20/03/2020 21:17

Have you a link to that map, Dk20?

NoGravyForYou · 20/03/2020 21:37

Went to do my food shop this evening, stocked up for around 2 weeks now barring dog food, and there was so many drunk teenagers hanging around. Why are their parents letting them out????

7Days · 20/03/2020 21:50

Are you in Ireland or NI? If Ireland, ring the guards. They have passed emergency legislation to allow them to disperse groups like this.
I'm normally first on civil liberties bench, but this is different.
Ring them, let them get the shock of their lives.

NoGravyForYou · 20/03/2020 21:52

I'm in Rep. Ireland. I didn't realise that, they were moving on by the time I was leaving but if I see it again I will do. Thanks for that.

How's everyone feeling about it all? It being Mother's Day on Sunday has really hit me how shit it is and I had a little cry earlier. I usually work from home so my life hasn't changed that much, apart from all the good bits 😭😭😭

Iblinkedandiamold · 20/03/2020 22:22

Mother's day is going to be hard. I cant see my son or my granddaughter. I cry on and off. I can still see my parents luckily but no one else.

Annasgirl · 20/03/2020 22:24

@LadyEloise sorry I didn’t see this until now. I’m in Ireland.

peppersneezes000 · 20/03/2020 22:50

Personally I feel if the kids are u18, the parents should be fined if the children in their care are not indoors.
We are in a pandemic, desperate times call for desperate measures....
If the laws were changed & parents were actively fined on the spot for their awal kids the situation would change rapidly.... The kids are their responsibility end of.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 20/03/2020 22:57

The police in craigavon dealt with up to 300 children out on the streets/parks tonight “celebrating” the end of school. Hmm

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 20/03/2020 23:27

Sorry- carrickfergus not craigavon

buckeejit · 20/03/2020 23:39

Bloody hell, that's terrifying. Those fuckers don't deserve to get priority places in ICU when it comes to it. I don't understand how anyone does not see the risk here. Maybe full lockdown is necessary after all. What a disgrace

7Days · 21/03/2020 00:14

I know. Isnt it sickening to think that a young person who does nothing to help mitigate things will spread the virus, AND get first dibs on treatment, while others who do their best will not

Ahh fuck it. It's a very small minority, they're in all age groups. Let it not divide us.
Irish figures show the median age is 44.

Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland
Dk20 · 21/03/2020 07:22

@7days
Theres the Google maps link, just had a quick look and seems to include yesterday's, there are 7 in kilkenny and 7 in clare with yesterday's date on them.
I'm not very good at links so if it doesn't work, I also posted it earlier in the thread and it worked for someone else here

Dk20 · 21/03/2020 07:23

Cannot believe the teens out and about like that Angry I agree with PP, the parents should be fined in these cases.
