Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland

beanaseireann · 27/02/2020 19:56

The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

I'm really worried about money if school and creche's are closed long term. I've had to sign on, once the bills are paid I will have 37 euro a week. Luckily I have no dependents but I have a car. I'm okay for a few weeks, have savings but if we are closed till Sept, I just dont know.

Dk20 · 16/03/2020 20:07

@linwin
I hope you are ok Flowers

Linwin · 16/03/2020 20:32

Thanks everyone for thinking of me. I am fine, I think maybe it’s just stress. If I’m not better tomorrow I’ll go to A&E and get checked out. Although, who wants to go there at the moment.

Today just sent my whole staff lay off letters and closed the restaurant. No idea if we will ever open again. It is so so sad but completely out of our hands.

Watching old home movies with the DC to cheer ourselves up

Take care everyone. 💐

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 16/03/2020 20:38

So sorry to hear that linwin

Iblinkedandiamold · 16/03/2020 20:55

Ah linwin I am so sorry you're going through all this. Take care.

Cocolapew · 16/03/2020 21:10

Sorry to hear that Linwin.

LadyEloise · 16/03/2020 21:31

Linwin. Thinking of you and wishing all will turn out well for you in the end.
When this is all over, we'll visit your reopened restaurant and give it lots of business.
Incognito of course.

Take care of yourself 💐

Myshitisreal · 16/03/2020 22:57

@linwin so sorry to hear that. Wish I had some helpful words xx

Annasgirl · 16/03/2020 23:08

@Linwin, sending you thoughts and prayers. I think we all have to hunker down and when it is over we could perhaps help each other to restart? DH and I are self employed too. Really stressful time but trying to stay positive as we are all stuck on top of each other and we cannot afford to get depression on top of everything else.

halcyondays · 16/03/2020 23:29

Sorry to hear that Linwin.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 17/03/2020 08:18

Ah Linwin, that's awful. Flowers So many hospitality places will go the same way, it's so sad.

Deadringer · 17/03/2020 10:28

Well i am really worried now because apparently ireland has no health care system, courtesy of that dickhead Dr Hilary. Hmm

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/03/2020 11:01

Deadringer I heard that too. I could've sworn we did but Dr.Hilary must be right. We're all doomed now.

AngelaScandal · 17/03/2020 11:50

Last I checked we just rubbed spuds and garlic over our festering wounds. And prayed the coronavirus away
Hmm

Myshitisreal · 17/03/2020 12:31

I remember having a wart on my hand as a kid. My mum rubbed it with raw potatoes, then buried the potato in the Back Garden 🤔🤪. Please tell me it wasn't only me???? What's doctor hillary said? Today is the first day I've slightly distanced myself from the internet. I'm consumed driving myself insane like we all are I'm sure.

eggandonion · 17/03/2020 12:55

Potatoes cure warts, every other ailment needs 7 up, red lemonade or ice cream, or a hot whiskey.

SuDaji · 17/03/2020 13:26

My gran always believed you had to cut a turnip in half and sprinkle it with sugar to cure a cough. We had manys a grim fridge clear out at her house.

Myshitisreal · 17/03/2020 13:33

@sudaji what did you do with the turnip???? 😂

@eggandonion no brown lemonade or flat coke???? 🤣

Just being a bit 😋 in these dark days

🤗

eggandonion · 17/03/2020 13:53

Brown lemonade is northern, red in republic. Except cork, where tanora rules. I don't think tanora is medicine. Discuss.

LadyEloise · 17/03/2020 14:13

MyShitIsReal
I started a thread in AIBU on DrHilary and his pronouncement on the lack of a health service in Ireland.

Deadringer · 17/03/2020 14:33

Yes why the hell haven't people been stock-piling 7up?

HorseOutside · 17/03/2020 15:04

DH insisted we need a supply of 7up for when the shit hits the fan. We now have 8 bottles cluttering up the press Confused

eggandonion · 17/03/2020 15:09

I have 4 cans, and gave cans to two of my kids (remaining kid is working from home here, and paying Dublin rent so sad). One kid is working in emergency medical set up, and the 7Up underlined the gravity of the situation.

7Days · 17/03/2020 15:11

Having a bit of a freak attack at the mo. Fuck it anyway.
