Hi all

We are potentially moving to Dublin next summer. My husband has been working there for a year and commuting back to London every weekend (he’ll have to plant an entire forest to pay back for his massive carbon footprint).
We have an 11 and 9 year old and we like the fact kids stay in primary school for an extra year. And everything just seems a bit less pushy than London. Is that true??

Thinking about Drumcondra to buy/rent. Anyone live there and can speak of its charms?

Thanks.

Education is definitely less pressurised than in the UK. No constant testing for a start.

Another big difference is the school entry process though and that can often throw a spanner in the works when people move here with school age dc. I'm not very familiar with Drumcondra, but I pass through on the way to Ikea and it looks lovely, very leafy! I think there is an Educate Together school not far away in Glasnevin which is multi denominational, but they are hard to get into. If you are C of E that would be really useful as you could hopefully get into a C of I school, which tend to be small and very good IME. The process is to contact the schools directly and see if they have space available. Get your name down on the waiting list if not, Drumcondra is a fairly central area so it might have families moving further out which would free up space.

Good luck with the move!

I know Drumcondra very well and it's a lovely place to live. Walking distance from town, loads of pubs/restaurants/kids activities.
As a pp said, the school process is difficult. PM me if you want any info - I know all the schools around.
