Announced today that we are to be hit with a “device-independent broadcasting charge”, amount as yet unknown.
Basically if you have a mobile phone, tablet or computer you will have to pay. Which means that pretty much every household in the country are going to be charged.

I pay my tv license fee.
I just hope the government don't decide to up the charges.
Pay less to the top "stars" and top management and stop whinging about not having enough money.

Apparently 10% of homes access content on devices that don't currently require a licence. It seems fair to me that if you are using the service you should contribute, no matter how you access it.

Plus the evasion rate is 13%.

So that's 23% of households who use public service broadcasting that currently don't pay for it.

If the issue is that people with internet devices are accessing the rte player without having paid a licence, they should tighten the security on site. I don't watch RTE no tv and I don't stream it, so why should I have to pay for it.

I hope public opinion of the BBC will shift.
Remember when they supported and hid pedophilia? The news they put out is far from impartial and they hire companies who are well known for being aggressive to check people's tv licenses. When they start charging over 75s are these companies going to be abusing these elderly people too?
It's not a tax. We shouldn't be forced to pay for it just because we own a device with the potential to stream BBC services. I avoid BBC so I shouldn't have to pay.

This has nothing to do with the BBC @Monst. You're on Craicnet.
