Why do the Irish media seem obsessed with this woman?

They seemed to have turned a criminal in to a celebrity. She has admitted that she knew what she was doing taking luggage containing drugs on a plane from peru to mardrid.

Since shes returned we've had the famous RtE interview, not that a wise desicision on RtE'S Part i feel bit ok i can see it being a news story.

But bloody hell the glossies and the tabliods are obsessed with her.

Double page spread in RSVP when her twins were born.

Goss and VIP have pictures on their social media seemimgly announcing everything she does like she was pippa o connor or something.

The irish mirror has several headlines about her being a potential contest on either celeb big brother or i'm a celeb get me out of here.

Today shes in talks abput a tv series about her expetience.

I don't get it, when the media attacks irish celebs that have genuinely worked for their fame (whatever you think of them personally) yet tjey seem to be glorifying some one who was a willing drug mule who protentially could have imported thosends and thousends of euros of illegal substamces in to mardrid.

Surely they dont think the irish public want to read about this eoman do they? Like she was some sort of role model. When theres the likes of cecilia ahern, pippa o conner, amanda byram, lucy kennedy, vogue williams and yvonne connolly earning an honest living.

Surely they represent irish celebrity women better than a drig mule

I don't get it either but they done the same with Josie Cunningham 🤐🤐🤐

Samind · 08/04/2019 17:00

Not the Irish though**

nancy75 · 08/04/2019 17:05

I think the game she has found from her actions is disgusting

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 08/04/2019 17:08

Its a bit different though josie hasnt committed a criminal offence its nog illegal to have a boob job or requestvan abortion (in most of the UK)

Michealla is a convicted drug mule with no remorse

Samind · 08/04/2019 17:09

Yeah I agree in terms of criminality. Of course she shouldn't be broadcasted or given attention but usually people who don't warrant press attention usually get it

fivedogstofeed · 13/04/2019 10:31

She has an agent and PR working for her, and a book coming out and she's clearly never going to get a job. People love an apparently repentant criminal.
I'm reliably told she was dealing drugs a long time before she went to Ibiza.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 13/04/2019 17:06

People love an apparently repentant criminal

Bit thats what I just dont get why the irish media think we care. Although i get their intest now the pr firms are paying for coloumn inches about her. Do the media really think the public are tjat thick we're just going to forgeg shes a criminal. Are we meang to go poor michaella locked up in a peru prison when shes admitted she knew what she was doing and doesng care. Tbh its a shame theh didnt throw away thd key

The PR rep must be paying the glossies thousends. Surely this woma would not get attention otherwise

As for the drugs - that wouldbt suprise me.

Just when i see her treated like a celeb i want to scream.

beanaseireann · 14/04/2019 15:35

I just never read articles written about her.
The media do it to be controversial so it gives airtime to their publications etc.

AnyName1 · 14/04/2019 16:14

I think it must be your choice of reading material, I haven't seen anything about her lately.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 14/04/2019 17:40

Yes Oh yes i shouod have known better than question this on here the patronising we dont read celeb magazine its your choice of reading matrial

Sorry people like clebrities - thats why their er cekebrities.

OP posts:
beanaseireann · 14/04/2019 20:20

I see articles on DM online but I won't click on it and give more oxygen to her.
She knew what she was doing.
She certainly looks well, compared to her mug shot.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 15/04/2019 06:40

I didnt actually say i read the articles did i??
its the fact their covering her AT ALL that annoys me.

She shouldnt be treated like a celebrity.

I agree Naught

Bluestitch · 15/04/2019 08:23

I feel a bit sorry for the other woman who appears to want to keep her head down and get quietly on with her life but everytime MM is in the media her picture and name is brought up again too.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/04/2019 08:24

Well she will ever be known as ‘the stupid drug mule...’.

CoisNaFarraige · 15/04/2019 08:26

Im Irish in Ireland and i havent a clue what she is doing!

CoisNaFarraige · 15/04/2019 08:27

@bluestitch that is very true.

smurfy2015 · 25/04/2019 16:40

There is a backstory, time will bring it all out in the open. I live in the same area as she is from.

For now, you are meant to be impressed by the reformed woman who did charity work in Peru before coming home, who is writing her story "of her hellish experience" - it was probably hell.

Who has an agent who keeps tipping photographers off when she goes shopping or to the park, in full makeup and well dressed or on holidays as needs to keep relevant in light of a documentary and possibly the book launch to coincide with it.

Note we never see photographers taking sneaky pics when she nips down the shops in her trackie bottoms, hair a mess and flip flops. That's, not the image she wants to project.

The desired image is "good" girl makes a "mistake" and is getting on with her life (inspiring, #livingmybestlife. #blessed, #family), we won't mention that she intends to make money off the back off it.

Yes well I orginally had a certain amount of sympathy for both of them as justice systems and prisons abroad are't well known for being the most easy or compassionate of experiences. However its become clear in the RtE interview that she clearly isn't the reformed woman and has no remorse whatsover.

The desired image is "good" girl makes a "mistake" and is getting on with her life

But again, she's said herself, there was no mistake, she's told every one she knew there was drugs in the suitcase, she knew it coukd flood madrid, she couldn't care less.

Does she and her PR think we suddenly forget what shes saud herself.

Note we never see photographers taking sneaky pics when she nips down the shops in her trackie bottoms, hair a mess and flip flops

I might have more time for her if we did, then i would go she hasn't asked for this, its the media playimg their games.

I'd still question why we're meant to be so interested in an unremorseful criminal but i would feel less manilpated

In Britain the daily fail is also obsessed with her.
Recently reported that she has an upcoming tv show appearance and book deal. I don't like the message she sends to kids-crime pays big time.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 09/05/2019 20:48

I'd noticed the fail was starting to taje an interest

I don't remember the other ladies name who was involved. I think she has learned a lesson and is keeping a low profile.
