Shock Is this true?
I read it on Broadsheet.
I'm hoping it's 'fake news'
Can they really do that - transport nuclear waste across the Irish Sea and dump it in the north of Ireland ?

They bloody better not!

beanaseireann · 06/02/2019 08:50

I sincerely hope not too.
It seems to have gone under the radar with the mainstream media, that's why I hoped it was "fake news" or something put out to befuddle even more, Brexit, backstops et all.

........what the actual COCK?!?!?!?

I bloody hope that's made up..

beanaseireann · 06/02/2019 18:36

Check out Broadsheet - it apparently comes from Gov UK - National Geological Screening for a GDF - Northern Ireland.
It would be up to the Executive in Stormount to allow it but in the absence of an Executive...........

The Irish Times have picked it up.
If I were living in Newry ( one of the locations suggested) I'd be very 😡

Typical Tories.

Chocolatepeanuts · 08/02/2019 16:50

Yes its true. Tyrone has been suggested as well. Fuckers.

beanaseireann · 08/02/2019 18:18

Why is it getting so little publicity ?
Will it be slipped in as the politicians bicker over Brexit ???

OP posts:
Chocolatepeanuts · 09/02/2019 12:35

Its starting to gain publicity in the north only now. I have no idea why!

Chocolatepeanuts · 09/02/2019 12:36

....i mean why it has taken so long.

beanaseireann · 09/02/2019 14:18

Chocolatepeanuts
I'm not in the North but some of my family are and I just hope people will wake up and shout "You're not using Ireland as a dumping ground."
Could you spread the word too.

It's sickening.

EdithWeston · 13/02/2019 07:07

www.gov.uk/government/collections/geological-disposal-facility-gdf-for-high-activity-radioactive-waste

The waste still has to be dealt with, regardless of which shade of government.

What wouid be a better range of options?

(Veteran of anti-Nirex campaigns in the 1980s, btw)

beanaseireann · 13/02/2019 07:45

Why should Ireland be a dumping ground for nuclear waste from Britain ?

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 13/02/2019 07:47

It's pretty much as simple as that @beanaseireann . I agree.

beanaseireann · 14/02/2019 17:28

EdithWeston
Northern Ireland doesn't have nuclear power plants to my knowledge.
Ireland doesn't have nuclear power plants.
There were marches against siting one in Carnsore Point Wexford decades ago and it wasn't built.
Why should a separate island have nuclear waste dumped on it.
Forget Brexit I think the threat of nuclear waste being dumped in NI might bring about a Border Poll quite quickly !!
I can't believe how under the radar this news is.
