Hello,
I wanted to book a hotel break as a surprise for a family member and her husband, who have helped me a lot in recent times. Haven't lived at home for a long time, and don't know what is considered naice anymore - when I was wee it would have been the Slieve Donard and the Europa, but things may have changed a lot? Any suggestions? They are elderly but fit and active.

The Fitzwilliam in Belfast is lovely.

tigerchair · 01/10/2018 22:40

Culloden is good

Newer hotels are Marriott, Grand Central, Titanic hotel .. all in Belfast

Chiliprepper · 01/10/2018 22:47

The Galgorm?

TheLastUNIC0RN · 01/10/2018 22:57

Galgorm is beautiful. But expensive.
Manor House hotel, enniskillen
Bishops gate, Derry

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 01/10/2018 22:59

Thank you all - looking at these is making me want a night away myself!
I could get gift vouchers for Hastings hotels rather than a specific accommodation one, is that a good chain?

Merchant in Belfast but it is expensive.

TheCraicDealer · 02/10/2018 14:45

As much as I'm loathe to admit it, the Galgorm is lovely. I have to go with work occasionally and every time I visit I'm reminded that it's popular for a reason. It's pricey but you get access to the extensive spa as well, and when you look at the prices it's comparable to Hastings.

For an out of this world, bucket list experience, I really recommend Finn Lough in Fermanagh. The bubble domes are truely exceptional, it was probably my favourite ever mini break.

If they're into their food and happy to go over the border, MacNean House in Blacklion has well priced B&B accommodation and you could add on a voucher for a meal.

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 02/10/2018 16:19

That bubble dome looks amazing!! I want to go, don't think I could count on the people I'm buying for liking it though - it is very unusual Smile

Culloden is massively overrated, IMO.
What about Bushmills Inn? Food is amazing, excellent service, lots to see locally, And they have traditional music in the bar on a Sat night.

beanaseireann · 02/10/2018 20:14

Don't bother with the Malmaison- it's grubby and needs a refurb.

HelenUrth · 02/10/2018 20:20

Titanic Hotel in Belfast? Starts about £109 - haven't stayed there but it's on my wish list.

WipsGlitter · 02/10/2018 20:26

Lots of good suggestions here! My list

Merchant
Bullit
Grand Central- new Hastings one, colleagues got a tour and said the bedrooms were excellent
Galgorm
Lough Erne
Tyrella House

buckeejit · 02/10/2018 20:47

Galgorm or Ardtara

Meandyoumake2 · 02/10/2018 22:18

Wouldn't bother with the fitzwilliam again - heard titanic is lovely if thinking belfast.

What type of thing do the couple like? Galgorm is lovely but fancy, I'd rather somewhere like lusty beg myself - its Fermanagh, you get a car ferry across to it. New boutique hotel In Derry too - Shipquay Hotel

beanaseireann · 03/10/2018 11:16

So much to do in Belfast.
Can't wait to go there again.
Wasn't blown away with the Lough Erne resort but it was a few years ago.

fivedogstofeed · 03/10/2018 13:11

Bushmills Inn is lovely this time of year- really cosy , open fires and nice food. Close to loads of stuff to see and do.

Lough Erne resort is very popular though expensive.

Hastings voucher gives them choice, but the hotels don't actually get the greatest reviews.

Castle Leslie is literally just over the border and is really lovely, not stuffy at all but amazing service.

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 03/10/2018 19:35

Right I'm adding all these to my list for when dh and I get to go ourselves one day!

Another vote for Bushmills Inn - brilliant time of year to go there. Loads to see and do locally.

buckeejit · 03/10/2018 20:00

I'm all about staying close to home at the mo so watching with interest & planning!

HalloumiGus · 03/11/2018 19:59

Culloden and Merchant are totally overrated IMHO. I would definitely say Galgorm just for the spa but it is expensive.
