Dunnes beef

Dunnes have got new packaging for their beef which is good as it's less plastic but I've just opened a round roast beef and it absolutely stinks. Has anyone else had this? I'm not sure if it's safe to use or not. The smell isn't as bad now I've left the beef out of it for a while but I'm wary! It's in date until the 12th.

If in doubt throw it out!

DwangelaForever · 04/09/2018 15:23

Could it just be the gas they use for packaging? Similar to chicken?

JaneJeffer · 04/09/2018 15:23

But it cost €11!

Maybe Dwangela. It's very off-putting.

Don't throw it out...but definitely return it if it smells off.

Meat and fish are vacuum sealed, greatly reducing the chance of bacteria growth. Due to this process, the concentration of carbon dioxide and nitrogen left in the packaging can cause a sulfur smell when opened. This is normal and can be easily remedied by opening up the package and allowing it to sit for a couple of minutes.

Wash it

Well I cooked it up and everyone except me has eaten it so hopefully they'll be ok!
