Getting from Dublin centre to airport

Just wondered if any Dubliners could advise on the fastest way to get from Dublin (main rail station) to the airport, early evening. I can see there is an airlink bus, but not sure how long it would take. Would a taxi be quicker?

We are planning a visit mid-Sept to see relatives on south coast. DS20 currently lives in Southampton, so he is going to fly to spend part of week with us. Originally thought he would fly in and out of Cork, but he is now thinking of a train to Dublin and evening flight to Soton, as Cork flights are all in morning.

But whilst we are still looking at flight options, I think we also need to consider the ease of him getting from Dublin station to airport.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

The fastest way is by taxi. There is a bus service that goes from the station to the airport (route 747) which takes about an hour. If travelling from Cork you might want to consider the air coach bus service (aircoach.ie) which leaves from Cork City Center and takes around 3.5 hours to Dublin airport. The train takes about 2.5 hours to Dublin Heuston.

We always take the Aircoach, we catch it near to the main post office and the big spike.

Thanks for both replies.

Yes I saw that there was a bus from cork, but not sure he would want to be on a coach for 3.5 hours. He can get mild travel sickness, so train would be better I think.

The advantage of the bus is you can get it directly from the airport to cork and they are very regular - look at aircoach.ie. I'd do this if it were me as would be quicker , cheaper and handier.

To get the train he'd need to get a bus into city and a Luas to Heuston Station to get the cork train (or taxi from airport to Heuston)

Taxi will be quicker but hugely expensive. City centre to airport about €40

The aircoach buses are really nice OP. I'd get the AirCoach up from Cork. You'll be much quicker than on the train.
