Missing child - Mary Boyle, 40 years on.

I watched the Prime Time programme last night about this case. I'm fearful that this little girl will never be found. I don't believe she is alive.
I also think that somebody somewhere knows what happened.
It's heartbreaking.

It seems to have torn the family apart. Her twin has said she believes she knows who the killer is.... her mother wants to believe she's alive. What a horrendous sadness in their lives..

Who on earth would send hate mail to the mother of Mary Boyle??!

I don't know how you would go on after losing a child.
My heart goes out to Mary's family.

I watched Mary Boyle Untold on YouTube last night. It leaves you with no doubt who the main suspect is. The guards who worked on the case at the time are certain they know who killed her.

I'm not in Ireland and would have been about 3 when this happened so had never heard of this case until I looked at this thread.

I have read a lot about the case also, especially in recent years, and watched the Gemma Doherty piece some time ago.

Very very sad case and as pp said, it has torn the family apart.

Not knowing must be just horrific.

But having a suspect, or a hunch, isn't the same as having any evidence. There is no suggestion that there was or is enough evidence for an arrest or prosecution, no matter who may or may not have intervened.

I finally got round to watching the documentary this weekend.

Ann O'Doherty and Margo O'Donnell seemed to think there was plenty of evidence and the whole thing was a cover-up, sanctioned at the highest level. I'm guessing that Ann Boyle knows the truth is defending her brother - why else would she not want the land searched for Mary?

The whole thing will be forgotten in time as the generations expire. I do wonder why the case is considered to be closed. Very sad.

Haven't seen the documentary - is Mary Boyle's brother considered a suspect?? Surely he was very young at the time?

Look up a generation.

The documentary was very careful not to say name him as guilty, but it ruled out 2 other so-called suspects. In such a small and remote community the short period of opportunity and accounts given, it's very unlikely to be anyone else.

Why would anybody protect somebody who has been involved in the disappearance of a child ?
Why would politicians do this ( as has been inferred in this case) ?
Surely, helping to find out who is responsible would earn them a lot more votes ?

The issue is that there are people close to home that are very complicit. If the truth been admitted in 40 years, it won't be now. Time is now running out: I predict the truth will die with the murderer.

But why is the murderer being protected?
