Grace is about the same age as me. I was born in the late seventies.

Her birth mother put her up for adoption. She has profound intellectual disabilities and can't speak. She was put in a foster home (that only ever had permission for short term stays) and left there for years.

She was abused - anally raped for years,she would adopt a sexual pose on a command word, she repeatedly had brusing..

The HSE were aware of her case and yet she was left in that house. Even when they removed others because of allegations of abuse.

That poor woman with no voice was left in that home. Even though there were very expensive reports done on this case they still haven't really given a proper answer as to why. Was it gross incompetence?

It is utterly shameful and i hope that those who are involved and who knew of the case and did nothing never again get a moments peace.

That is utterly appalling. I am also a similar age :(

Is she now safe? And being given appropriate psychological support?

A social worker acted as a 'whistleblower' - she was moved to a 'safe house' in 2013. Its only now that the reports are coming out.

This is massive news in Ireland - i forgot that it wouldn't be a big story outside of here.

Social workers here in Ireland have a very poor reputation and I can see why so not surprised by this especially as it's in my area. The HSE went to great lengths to avoid having this report published. This is yet another scandal that has Michael Noonan's fingerprints all over it.

I feel sick when I think of how Grace was treated.
The HSE, the social workers, the staff working in that foster home,the government, the civil servants involved ( if they were) should hang their heads in shame.
That poor, poor girl- how she must have suffered.....and unable to communicate it.
There will be no accountability though - that's not how things work in Ireland.
When you get elected do you lose your humanity, your empathy?
Just wondering.
