Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Cheaper alternative to bedside crib/co-sleeper?

I'm expecting my second in July and want to get something for them to sleep in next to my bed. I love the idea of the bedside cribs and co-sleepers (e.g. BedNest, Arms reach etc.) but they are waaay too expensive. We have a cot bed for when it gets a bit bigger, so just need something small, crib-sized. Does anyone know of a normal crib where you can just remove one side that would be cheaper than the fancy 'special' ones?

If you are handy then just get a cheap, normal cot (ikea etc), leave one side off and drill extra holes to fit the base level with your bed. Check out ebay too, you get a few co sleepers on there.
