Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

ReadyBeds - Opinions please

DS is 2.5 and slightly over 3ft, so obviously too big for a travel cot, but too little just to plonk in someone's spare bed when we go away. Are those inflatable readybeds any good? Don't want to spend the money if they're a bit gimmicky (my main worry), but not sure what the alternative would be. Any tips gratefully received

we have one and ds1 LOVES it.

playftseforme · 22/12/2009 21:53

I'm onto my second ready bed - dd outgrew the first one! For us they've been brilliant - great for taking on a plane too.

satonthesofa · 22/12/2009 21:55

In my experince noisy and you may walk in and find your DS has become a tortoise.(rolled over with the bed!!) One available to a good home here

sheilatakeabow · 22/12/2009 21:57

Hmm, noisy. He is a bit of a wriggler. Satonthesofa, need it by Christmas day, could be pushing it. Feck, I'm so unorganised.

We have one. It has come in very handy over the years. In fact dd slept in hers in her new bedroom in Brussels til the furniture arrived. She was just 2 when we moved. We've used it in hotels too rather than paying extra for a camp bed. It's still being used for smaller visitors. 20 quid well spent in my opinion.

We have several grown up aerobeds and the loo ones are excellent for children- you just plug them in, they self inflate and there's your bed. They are really comfy too and supportive so you don't roll off.

indieangel · 22/12/2009 21:59

God no, dd was in one, rolled over, flipped out, bed on top of her, she rolled again, got stuck under the double bed we were in. Cue, screaming from her and then me as initially (sleep dazed) I could hear her but couldn't see her. I briefly thought she was being kidnapped.

norksinmychristmasstocking · 22/12/2009 21:59

I had one for dd but she used to get too hot and sweaty in it. Now have normal inflatable mattress and use cot bed quilt cover

Sexonlegs · 22/12/2009 22:00

Our dd2 has one; the one with the bolstered side bits iyswim, and we have found it really useful. She has never rolled over in it and we haven't found it noisy.

Dd1 has the more grown up version, and I have to say that has been a bit noisy, but maybe due to her moving around more than dd1.

BibiJesus · 22/12/2009 22:01

Very handy, DD loves the idea of hers and we've used it loads, BUT it squeaks a bit. Not that it bothers her one bit, but it annoys the hell out of me

onepieceoflollipop · 22/12/2009 22:02

We also had the tortoise experience with dd. We seem to manage better (well she did) with the type with bolstered edges.

I was attracted by the blow-up sides, to stop him falling all of the, ooh, three inches to the floor in normal bed. On balance, looks like a trip to Argos for me on Christmas Eve Eve. That'll bring on the festive feelings

I meant the three inches of a normal blow-up bed, not the average bed. We're not Borrowers

The spiderman man bed is nylon and DS got very hot in it. He now has a camp bed (£8 from millets) and a child's sleeping bag (£13) I think that balances with a ready bed and will last a lot longer.

feedthegoat · 22/12/2009 22:12

Ds is getting a little big for his now but can just about squeeze in there which is lucky as we need to use it over christmas. He loves it mind.

I'm hoping that we don't have a repeat of last year though. We were all really ill with flu over christmas. Half way through the night ds woke up hysterical that he wanted to be in bed with me. We took him into our bed but we all had raging temperatures and it was just too hot......so dh spent last christmas eve sleeping in a Roary the racing car ready bed
