Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Six month old will not settle in cot at night

My 6 month old just will not settle in his cot 😖

My LO can be fast asleep either on one of us, on the sofa , on our bed, in his pushchair, multiple places but the second we put him in his cot he instanly wakes and gets upset. We have tried settling him back down in his cot (knowing he's still tired and has only woken because he's in there) but he just gets so upset.

It's causing nighttime to be challenging and genuinely don't know what to do.

Tried a soft insert for his cot which he used in his moses basket too (bit of familiarity) but makes no difference. Tried putting his cot in different places in the bedroom to see if it's the location but again makes no difference. Tried certain lights, lullabies, his favourite blanket. Tried getting him to sleep actually in it but he sobs. Tried laying him in his cot in the day (even if not going to sleep) so he gets used to it but doesnt change things. We had a larger cot but downsized to a compact cot as didn't know if he needed something a bit more 'snug' and not so huge but hasn't made a difference.

ANY HELP I WOULD APPRECIATE 🙏

Why do you want him in the cot?

Id just let him sleep in your bed with you. He's only little and it's the best way to get sleep in my opinion. And nice to snuggle next to your baby - I blinked and mine is 6 years old now and I miss it.

Or if you really want to sleep apart perhaps try a floor bed where you can try and roll away once he's asleep? Easier than trying to move the sleeping child.

my son was/ is like this and we gave up and put him in bed with us (way ealrier mind, like a month old) we tried the cot a lot over the coming months in our room but he wouldn’t settle unless in with us. Anyway he’s 15 months now and takes up our whole bed and we got rid of the cot long ago 😂
