This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Newborn - what's best?

What did you do when your newborn was born? Bedside crib (co-sleeping style), or in a crib (no co-sleeping style) but in the same room? I don't know what's best to do.

Both of mine went in a Moses basket next to the bed until they outgrew it (DC1 was exactly 1 month and DC2 was about 3 months) then into a cot in the same room. DC1 stayed in our room til he was maybe 8 months or so, when we started waking each other up, and DC2 is still in with us at the moment. Moving house in a month and she’ll be going into her own room then at 9 months.

So many people say Moses baskets never get used, and even mine didn’t for long, but I’m glad I had one! I personally wanted to avoid cosleeping if I could, although have had to relent a couple of times with DC2, so a cosleeping cot felt to me like a slippery slope!

I had a small cot that connected to the bed, wooden but with a side off. They both almost exclusively slept in my bed from day one though, cot was a safe barrier/shelf

I had a moses basket for all my 4 so you can use down stairs in the day and carry it up stairs at night so you do have to move baby from one to another. What will you be using in the day.

I had a Moses basket and then a crib next to the bed that could have been used as a next to me but we kept the sides up
