Toddler Bed for 1 year old?

My little one is 13 months old and really struggles to sleep in his cot. He didn’t like sleeping in his next to me until he was about 4/5 months old. He often had the odd night where he co-slept but more often than not he would do a big stint in his own bed. He hasn’t taken his to cot and only ever sleeps a few hours in it. He’s only once or twice done a full night. Lately as soon we put him down once he’s asleep he wakes up as soon as he’s in the cot. We’ve tried putting him in the cot and getting him to sleep that way but he just won’t. I was wondering if a toddler bed would work. I could snuggle him to sleep and if he wakes settle him while he’s still in his own bed. It’s hard to comfort him in the cot cause he wants cuddles and he cries and it means him waking up fully

my only reservation is that he’d be able to climb out of the bed. Has anyone used a toddler bed for a child of this age?

just looking for suggestions and (kind) opinions

thanks

We've done this, neither of ours got on with cots. My only regret is not getting a bigger floor bed. We had toddler size and it's too small if we end up falling asleep with them.

I took the sides off the cot when DS2 was about that age as he would climb out and I figured he was less likely to hurt himself from a bed rather than a cot.

Yes! Oldest was a cot hater and never bothered trying with the youngest. Got a small low double bed - either stayed with them or put them to sleep and returned to our bed.

Thank you so much for your replies. I think I’ll go for the cot as you have all made me feel more positive about the decision xo

We went straight to a proper 3ft single bed on the basis there was a good chance we'd end up sleeping in it too. We did. Easy enough to put a side bar on it. There are lots out there designed for toddlers and keeping old people safe from falls.
