Bedsharing to co-sleeping challenges

Hey MNetters-I hope everyone is enjoying the BH ! DC is 9 months old. He has slept in a next to me forever till 6 months when sleep regression hit-after this we bed shared so that I could manage him more easily. This continued longer than planned as we were visiting parents and now that we are back, DC is very unwilling to sleep in the cosleeper. One reason may be the firm mattress-we are trying to make it more comfy for him. But I think he wants to roll up against me as he starts to fall asleep and gets very upset when he can’t do that.

The way things are, it isn’t safe to bedshare as he crawls now so I really want to transition him back to the co-sleeper but we had him crying for an hour the last time we tried. Any idea what we could do ? I understand bed-rails aren’t safe with this small a baby and want to avoid a floor mattress due to space constraints at home so feeling a bit lost !

Can you side car a cot to your bed and once he's fallen asleep move him across to the cot.
