Cot gap between bars and mattress

Recently bought this cot bed from wayfair. Typically just outside their 30 day return window we have assembled it to find that there is a gap between the bars and the mattress it came with. the mattress measures just over 60cm wide (as advertised), and bar to bar is 63cm. This means with the mattress pushed up against one side there will be a 3cm gap at the other side, barring anything negligible taken up by sheet and additional mattress protector. This feels like too much? Quite annoyed as it wasn't a cheap cot by any means.

Any advice? Is this standard or should the mattress push up tightly to the bars as I expected? My first time with all this, obviously 😓
Thanks!

Try a bigger mattress. I find Mamas and Papas the best for mattresses.

Not sure can't recall but there was no gap in the cot we bought for our grandson a few years back

If you buy a thicker mattress or build up the mattress as your child grows up be aware that is is not too high so a child a few months old could pull self up and topple out.

Our mattress fits snug with no gap at all, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a gap down the side either.
Personally I'd look at getting a bigger mattress to make it fit tight as you can't return it.

Thanks all. I'll get a bigger mattress then. Shocking to read that the safety standard is optional!
Although it would appear that the mattress is standard and it's the cot which is too wide. Ah well, live and learn!
