This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Bumps and Bruises

Hi all Mumsnetters! I would really appreciate your feedback and experience of using traditional wooden barred cots/cotbeds? The reason I ask is that I had a lot of bother with my daughter in that she sustained a number of bumps and bruises against the solid cot sides, and was forever getting her limbs stuck through the cot bars. This concerned me so much that I actually felt more comfortable putting her to sleep in a travel cot! Quite contrary to my nature(!), I have since been on a mission to design out all the hazards I faced with my cot, but I need to be sure it was not just a freak experience for me and my baby? Please let me know how you got/are getting on with your babies? All types of experiences appreciated! Cheers!

DC1 was constantly getting limbs stuck, bumping his head and banging into the sides but it never really bothered him and certainly hasn't done him and harm.

DC2 is currently using a cot and doesn't move around much in her sleep so has never had anything trapped or bumps.

Tbh I'm not really sure anything can be done about it although a friend uses a padded airflow bumper which eliminates these issues.

Thanks for the feedback SqutterNutBaush - Its reassuring (although that's probably not the right word!) that I am not the only one(!) who experienced this- although I still feel that it is not right that we should subject our precious ones to places where they can bump themselves or get limbs stuck...

Tbh I don't really see that its that big an issue. They get bumps and bruises wherever they go when they're little but they soon learn.
