Stokke junior extension versus a proper single bed

We have the stokke cot bed which has been great but seems to be getting a tad small for 2 year old DS. getting the stokke junior should be a no brainer but the fact that the width of the bed will not be increasing is making me unsure. anyone who has used the junior extension? Is it comfortable or would it be better to move onto a wider, proper single bed?
