Mid sleepers safe?

I've decided to treat my 4 year old to a new bedroom, it's been the same since he was born and about due a change.

At the minute he's in a toddler bed (upto 4y) I'm thinking of getting a mid sleeper -are they safe for a 4yo?

My DS has a mid sleeper and he loves it. He is nearly 9 now, but it was his first proper bed at 2.5 coming out of a toddler bed.

His has a slide which he has grown out of, but his little sisters still love.

He never had a problem climbing in, and unlike his sister who has a normal bed, he has never fallen out of it!

His is more like the second one, the first doesn't look very sturdy. The one we have is a full size bed, are these full size? It might seem a long time away, but think if a lanky teenager would use it. How long do you want it o last?

One word of warning, I'm quite tall (5'7")but I still find it quite hard to change the bed, I use a children's step to get high enough. If you are short, this may be a struggle.

If you want me to give you the name of it, let me know, he's asleep at the moment so the lights are off.

I wondered this, so watching with interest (also considering one for a 4 year old). John Lewis and Ikea both recommend their midsleepers from age 6 upwards, but I wondered if any others were recommended for younger children.

how about this ikea one? which is reversible, so you can have it as a low bed to start with, then flip it over when your dc is ready.

I have the ikea kura for ds, he went into it at 18 months straight from his cot, we set it up as if it was going to be the low bed (makes a cool four poster) but didn't put the slats in so the mattress was on the floor inside the bed base iykwim? Worked brilliantly and he never fell out of it or had a problem, we've just put it up to a full height single and he loves it, when he's much older we will flip it over and have it as a mid sleeper and prob put beanbags or something to make a den under it as ds has a tiny bedroom.
For us it's made three beds and was a complete bargain!

I'd like one with storage he has loads of books that need storing and easy reachable.

Can't remember what size the beds are.

I like this one. As it fits a full size single mattress and I love the storage on it and desk for when he's older.

My dd2 had one when she was 4.5 (now 5) and loves it. She has never fallen out of it but hers has a slanting ladder which personally I think is safer as it's easier to climb down when she's a bit sleepy still. Also the ladder has grab rails and safety treads. Can't do links but hers is a Thuka Trendy.

Dd1 had one with a slide from 4 yrs, finally got rid of it when dd2 was 9. Neither ever fell out of it and they really enjoyed having the den underneath (and the slide).
Bear in mind that you can't read a bedtime story sitting on the edge of the bed though. We had stories in my bed then tucked her in which was fine but something I hadn't thought about before we got the bed.

That's the brand we have! It doesn't have the coloured panels, and our ladder is vertical, not at an angle.

One suggestion, if you are building it yourself, make sure you do everything up tight enough. We didn't and thought it was poor quality, complained and they sent someone to check it. It was a bit embarrassing to find it just wasn't tight enough.

Haha, thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I'm not much a builder but DH is good with his hands so I'll let him deal with it lol
