Bedside cot/crib recommendations please

My 2nd baby is due in 7 weeks. I used a moses basket with my first which I hated so really want to get a bedside crib for the first few months. Are there any cheap options as I will only use it for about 5 months? I've got a cotbed which this baby will move into after as my son has now moved to a normal bed.

I remember falling asleep with my son on top of me and being so scared of suffocating him or squashing him in those exhausting early few months so to be able to roll baby into it's own space rather than having to get out of bed to put in moses basket is a VERY appealing option.

Thanks, that is a possibility but was really hoping to buy something so that I could sell it on after and not lose much money.

We have the Saplings space saver cot which we have made up with only three sides (not put the drop-side on) and have up against our bed. We've been using it for almost 10 months, and DS is shortly to move into a new bigger cotbed.

We got that one as space is tight in our bedroom, but if you have more space, I think Ikea do one called Sniglar? which is only £35 and you can do the same thing with three sides only.

Thanks for that @ teaandhobnobs - I've check out the saplings link (I live miles away from Ikea so that's not an option), I'l keep a look out on ebay too. Don't suppose you'd be able to let me know the mattress height options so I can see if it's suitable for my bed??????

They don't make them anymore but if you can find a Brio bedside cot on ebay they are great. The 'free' side lifts over the top so you can turn it from a 4 to 3 sided cot without waking the baby. Because of course you put the baby down to sleep before you're in your bed, right?

I'm facing a similar dilemma too so thanks for the link to the Saplings cot- it looks pretty good. Is your mattress on the same level as the cot tea?

I'm slightly nervous about just taking the sides off a cot that is meant to have four, just in case there is a gap between the cot and the bed mattress, or it not being sturdy enough.

Ideally I'd like an armsreach co-sleeper, but even on ebay they go for around £150 and I can't seem to find a mattress stockist.

I've a Cosatto close to me bedside cot, bought from boots online 1.5y ago. It has 6 mattress heights and the drop-side can be used normally as a standard cot or dropped under the base for use as a bedside cot. I don't think they're made anymore though there may be a similar model to replace it.

Anyway, I totally recommend bedside cots and am sad that ds won't be in it much longer

Local NCT sales or Gumtree may be a good place to look.

I've just seen the saplings space saver cot on ebay new for £88 with free postage which is pretty good.
One of the many downsides of living in rural mid-wales (& oh so desperately trying to sell our house) is that we don't have normal things like NCT or Gumtree.........

Result - bought a Troll co-sleeper on ebay for £60!!!!!

I think the cot base is on the middle setting which matches perfectly with our mattress, but if it didn't quite match, we were just going to make another set of holes in the frame to make it the right height.

Was just coming on to recommend eBay. We got our babybay that way. Q expensive but resale value is really good.
