Reuse or replace 7 year old cot bed matress?

I'm planning on using a 7 year old cot bed for DC2 (used by my sister) which is fine but the mattress is also with it and I'm not sure whether it is safe to use.

It was bought from Mothercare and is still on sale for £99.99, it has a removable washable top layer with a waterproof layer underneath and is sprung/foam mix.

where has the mattress been stored? I dont know if I would reuse one that old. I did reuse dd's mattress for dd but there were only 3 years between them and I knew the mattress history, where it was stored, etc.

The current guidelines are new child = new mattress. My DS2 was the 4th child in his cot as it belonged to my sister, each new baby got it's own new mattress. The guidelines are there for a reason - not worth the risk imo.

I bought a new mattress today in the Bounty flash sale, half price for £30 :)

The older mattress had been stored in plastic in loft since it went out of use 3 years ago but decided not to risk it for the sake of £30 especially when we don't have to buy a cot.
