Do I really need a travel cot

DS is 5 months old & we're going to stay with child-free friends for a weekend so need somewhere for him to sleep. We don't go away very often & grandparents already have a travel cot in their (over 100 miles away) house. I don't really want to buy a travel cot as we go away so infrequently I don't think it's worth the expense or the storage space. Is there an alternative for where DS can sleep when we're away? Has anyone ever tried sleeping their baby on a camping mat? Is it safe?

Help please, I'm very very confused (and am meant to be getting quotes for home insurance rather than going on mumsnet).

Well personally I just put ds in bed with me.

Does he have a pram? He could start off the night in the pram, then switch to the bed with you when you go to sleep.

Can't see a problem with camping mat on the floor either - as long as he can't roll away anywhere.

Could you borrow a travel cot from a friend?

Or could your friends maybe borrow a travel cot from a nearby friend?

Personally I'd rather get a cheap travel cot rather than worry myself silly with another arrangement.

Kiddiecare had some about £25 ish last time I checked.
