Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Have I made a mistake buying a space saver cot?

Hi, Have just ordered a space saver cot from kiddicare which is about 90 x 54
DD2 has been in a crib since birth and has outgrown it now at 5 months.
The girls are sharing a room so with a toddler bed already in there we didn't have much space left so thought this would be a good idea but I am now wondering if it is a waste of money and how long it will last?

having just had a look at it on their website, it seems identical to the one in ikea which is about £31 and another £13 for the matress.
the cot seems fine, but you may not get upto the 18mnth age range that it suggests due to its length.
before you make up your mind, assess how fast your LO is growing for their age. maybe you could opt for the ikea one and save the extra £32 for when you need the next size of bed? as 90cm isnt very long at all tbh.

DS grew out of a normal length cot (120cm) by 2 years, we were using it as a bedside cot so he probably would have outgrown it in comfort a lot longer before that.

In fact, I have my red book here, and he was only around 88cm tall when he grew out of the cot. Remember to factor in arms! So with a margin of 1/4 for arms, 68cm in my red book (boy charts only) is likely to be between 21 and 32 weeks, or 5-7.5 months Confused - that doesn't seem right at all? This is just the 25th to 75th centile lines I've based it on. And you might not have a baby who likes to flail their arms around.

How long is the crib she has just grown out of?

You do have 7 days to send any items back under the distance selling regulations, so don't panic if you do change your mind.

Hi thanks, well we have put it up and I would imagine it might last until she is about 10 - 12 months, although I could be wrong! I doubt up to 18 though. My 1st daughter came out of her cot though fairly early because she was climbing out but I guess that depends on the baby.
She does like to flair her arms out though. she kept wacking them on the side of the crib which is why we have given up on that.
Drats to the ikea one!! :( I don't usually look in there because I think delivery is quite expensive but I guess DH could have gone to pick it up in the car.
Both DDs have been on the 25th percentile so they are not huge babies but not tiny either!
