just in case useful to anyone else, after improvising for ages with single sheets i found lovely jersey cotton sheets in nice colours for dd's toddler bed from tony's textiles. pretty cheap (think around £5) and the bunk bed size was perfect.
and it came with a free cotton shopping bag! :)
