Second hand bedding - is it safe?

I have inherited a lovely Stokke Sleepi cot and and bedding. I have been told I need to buy a new mattress, does anyone know why?

Also I wonder whether it is ok to reuse the mattress covers and sheets if washed at 60 degrees?

I would be grateful for any advice from any mothers out there who might know!! I am a first time mum to be and a little unsure about what to do.

It's absolutely fine to reuse the bedding.

I did buy a new mattress for DS (second hand cot) but I reused it for DD as it was still perfect. It is advised to have a new one though :)
