advice on wooden cribs?????

I have used moses baskets for my first 2 dc's but have always liked the cribs and ds was a very big baby and practically filled it instantly, we are thinking of getting a wooden crib for dc3 so he/she can stay in our room slightly longerd but im worried about he/she hitting the bars on the side when moving? they always show those bumper thingys around the top but are they not supposed to be dangerous? i found a brilliant cloth crib on babiesRus but the mattress measurments are almost the same as a moses basket?

how have you found yours, did the baby ever hit the bars?

Have you seen any of the bedside cots out there, there are some lovely desgins like this or this one

i had the basic wooden crib from mothercare (it's called pure now i think) for my DS. i quite liked being able to see my pfb through the bars! i never used any bumpers as i believe they can possibly restrict the air circulation and cause a bit of overheating.

i did use a sleep positioner to try and make him feel cuddled in and restrict rolling into the bars when he was bigger.

he would have physically fitted in it till about 6 months, but we moved him into the big cot just before 5 months i think. this was due to the only drawback i found, when he startled in the crib, he banged his hands on the sides as he got bigger and woke up more.

overall i quite liked it, was as cheap as a Moses basket in mothercare sale. would maybe not get the most basic mattress though, seemed a bit hard.
