does anyone use a mattress on the floor?

Just wondering as I have twins and 2 cotbeds are going to take up so much space in their room.

I also get quite a bad back and not looking forward to reaching in and out of a cot when they are hefty 2 year olds. (Btw do the dropside cotbeds make a big difference for this?)

At the moment they are sharing an arms reach co-sleeper in our room but will be growing out of it soon. Eventually we'll put a bunkbed in their room but obviously they'll be too small for that for another 3 years or so.

My youngest DS slept on a cot mattress on the floor for quite a few months. He climbed out of the cot at 8 months so we had to dismantle it and as we were due to move house we wanted to wait for the new bed.
He was more than happy on his mattress and at least we didn't have to worry about him falling out of bed.
