Come and join me on the frugal living, charity shop bargain thread!

Since moving to the Scottish Highlands in April, and now living in a town that has pretty much nothing in the way of high street stores, I have been stalking the charity shops!

Today I got....

NEXT Skinny Jeans (look BN) for DD1 £2.50
NEXT Khaki green Skirt for DD2 £2.50
BNWT John Lewis green skirt for DD2 £2.50

Last week I got 2 books for £1.30 both of which had obviously been read once and given away as were immaculate and they were by an author I like and I hadnt read the books.

I also got a BNWT top for myself for £3.00

I honestly think Charity shops are under-used!

Ooooh - my kind of thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love nothing more than a good old rummage although have noticed that prices have shot up recently.....not sure why in a recession but anyway.................this past week I have got

Next Pink spotty raincoat for DD £3
Boden blue grandad hoody for DS1 £5
elc pink wooden fairy castle for £1 (my bargain of the year so far, they didn't know how to put it together and after 4 hours of trying, neither did I...until I googled and found instructions)
Caudalie face products - £5 for 3 full size bottles of various lotions and potions

However, I dropped a bag at one of the shops last week but stupidly put in a brand new monsoon boys linen shorts and waistcoat set that I had got for DS2. They didn't find it

since posting on this yesterday:
I went back into one of the charity shops on the high street and bought a v plasticy toy garage for ds. i had been umming and ahhing about it and decided that £4.99 is well worth it even if he breaks it after not long. It saves us/someone else buying him one for his birthday!!

a while ago when Virgin Megastores were still around i found a book in the charity shop that was 20p brand new condition.

they sold it in Virgin for £7 so took it in there and exchanged it for a CD! bargain

To add inspiration I once bought a brand new real leather designer jacket in a charity shop - of the fashionable 'bomber' style that everyone had a couple of years ago (and this was a couple of years ago)

£5.24

Ch-ching!

colditz · 23/07/2010 21:30

Yesterday I found a huge stash og old vintage sewing stuff in an old sewing chest, the chest with all the contents was £10. This includes 40 pairs of knitting needles, 25 wooden spools of thread (beautiful), hundreds of buttons, hundred's of poppers, lots of bias binding and elastic, 200 pins and a large assortment of sewing needles.

I am still in shock tbh, especially after looking on ebay and realising to buy all of that off ebay would have cost me close to £100.

I am in heaven.

Iloveclimbinghills · 05/08/2010 19:47

I bought myself two lovely Laura Ashley tops at £3 each.

chuckeyegg · 10/08/2010 13:31

I love a good rummage too and often have found new items that seem to have come from the shops at a fraction of the normal price. Also you are doing something for charity so everyones a winner - guilt free shopping excellent.

T-shirt for DS 50p (new)
Postman pat book that had tunes £1.99
Trousers for DS £1.50 (New) :)

xx

My best bargains:

Monsoon silk dress for £10
Monsoon trousers (which look brand new) £2.25
Boden jeans (which again look new) £3. They were a pale blue and I prefer a darker denim so I dyed them in the washing machine.

I love charity shops. Some of them seem to charge way too much though. Cancer Research UK seems to be amongst the worst. I've seen Primark tops in there for more than they'd go for new at Primark! Mind are great though. Pretty much everything in my local Mind shop is £2.25! Smile

whomovedmychocolate · 15/08/2010 20:15

Whistles coat new with tags - £10.

Divatheshopaholic · 15/08/2010 20:18

I dont think i ever got bargain from charity shops. Where do you all live?

510fudge · 15/08/2010 20:21

I love charity shop bargain hunting. I think they're really fashionable around here though- everything good gets snapped up! I did get my ideal pair of flat black shoes for £10 (which I did think was quite a lot, but they were brand new with labels on and exactly what I had been hunting for). Sometimes I'm amazed at what they charge though- if it's from Hobbs, Boden etc and is in good condition (say a pair of trousers) they will be £15!... And we have an Oxfam second hand book shop and they sell for around £2.99 a book which I think is quite a lot (it used to be a regular Oxfam and they charged £1.50 for books!). I fail to see the point of buying new books though, and love the randomness of what you find in the charity shop- I end up reading things I might not have bought in the high street. Also, at the end of the day the money is going to a good cause so I have a bit of feel good factor from that.
