Phone plans

So after about 15 years I have left O2 and moved to a provider called ID Mobile, my phone number ported over today and now I just feel like I've betrayed O2. I know that might sound odd but I guess it's just the change I'm not used to as I was a loyal O2 customer but the prices were just increasing year on year which lead me to leave as it was becoming extortionate.

I think the fact O2 was the only major network to give free roaming made me stay but after researching there are a few MVNO's that give free roaming.

So do any of you use the ID mobile network or any of the smaller networks ?

I have literally reduced my phone bill by 60% by switching I just hope I don't end up regretting it.

I switch every time a deal ends. Currently with Lebara for £1.29 a month for 15Gb via a MSE link.

Bjorkdidit · 06/10/2026 19:46

Why would you end up regretting it and why do you feel like you've betrayed O2 when they've rewarded your loyalty by ripping you off for years?

Millions of people use MVNOs because they provide exactly the same service at a fraction of the price.

Just abit worried I guess incase it's too good to be true and I lose my number forever but so far so good but so far all is well

I did look at Lebara but I wanted a contract rather than a rolling plans I don't want to have to keep switching I find it a hassle having only done it once

my husbands phone is with id mobile. Has been for years. No issues

Yes, recently moved to ID from Vodafone for the same reasons as you. Was paying £26
just for 50gb airtime, now unlimited with an iPhone 17 included for £33. Been a few weeks and ported my number over too, no problems at all.

Yep I pay a few quid a month with Lebara now after 20 years with Vodafone! And just get the phone on finance with Apple rather than a contract and phone bundle. Has saved me loads.

Apsidistra · 06/10/2026 22:19

Also my daughter had her first phone with them around 10 years ago, no problems then either.

I prefer to buy my phones separately but I was paying near 30 quid just for airtime plan and and I'm now only paying a tenner a month

You don't have to keep switching with timing contracts. Mine is a couple of quid with Lebara and they called me a few years ago too Kerry need know I could get a cheaper deal if I wanted. Great customer service

GarlicEverything · 06/10/2026 22:22

Currently with Giffgaff, £10 a month exactly, with 25GB data that rolls over.

I'll need a new phone next April, so will probably go back to Tesco or similar for a credit contract with much less data.

You don't have to keep switching with rolling plans if you find one you're happy with (main issue is the network signal where you live/work/travel).

You just pay by monthly DD or recurring card payment. And if you need to change, eg due to poor signal or other reasons, eg minor differences in included roaming destinations, it's easy because you're not in a contract.

Moneysavingexpert.com has a full guide and the new provider will walk you through it.

It's not too good to be true, you're just very late to the party.
