How much do you save a month?

How does this compare to say 5 years ago before the CoL crisis?

This is purely out of interest and there is no shame or judgement if you either save high or low. I'm just curious.

If comfortable, please share your family set up, maybe salary? And whether you are happy with the situation.

I’d say we are saving less on a monthly basis - 5 years ago I’d say we were around 1k a month. We’ve both had good promotions and income increases , but then bought a new house, higher mortgage than previously so over the last 2 years have put a good chunk of money into that. I’d also say we’ve hugely experienced lifestyle creep - we are very lucky and pretty comfortable now and mostly don’t need to check our spending - however I would still like to get a tighter grip on it- we spend a huge amount every months on “wants” !! That being said we get an annual bonus - my husbands was around $40k and all
of it went direct into investments. We also heavily overpay on the mortgage so I guess that is effectively saving

I’m saving 3,000, but I’m living overseas and am single with no kids. 5 years ago, probably saving less but I’ve had pay increases since then. If I was in the UK I would be earning significantly less.

We are saving more than 5 years ago due to no longer having childcare costs, slight salary increases and hitting our 40s and re-evaluating.

We've started Junior SIPPs for the DC as we worry about the future of the state pension. We're adding extra to our pensions too.

5 years ago we started investing (Stocks and Shares ISA) after almost a decade of putting all our savings into Premium Bonds 🤦). I wish we'd done it years ago. We just had no awareness until fairly recently. My parents certainly didn't invest.

I would say I am saving the same -- that is nothing. As a single parent (widowed), only one salary makes money very tight.

5 years ago I was saving 50% of my take home pay. But I was saving to take early retirement. Now I do not save anything out of my monthly income (small DB pension) and I pay myself an allowance out of my savings. I am living on about half of my take home pay of 5 years ago, but I do not have a mortgage. DH is also retired, his pensions and interest income are also about half of what he was earning 5 years ago. He doesn't save, but also doesn't spend all the interest income, so his savings are growing a bit.

More BUT we have no mortgage now as my husband inherited enough to pay ours off, which clearly helps massively
