Where's all the own brand non-bio gone?

Signoritawhocansway · Yesterday 18:34

Last week on my Asda shop there was no own brand non bio liquid available. This week in Morrisons, same again. I don't want to buy persil or fairy. I don't want capsules or tablets or powder, I want liquid, as I can adjust the dosing more easily; powder isn't good long term for the machine.

This is probably in the running for the most boring thread ever! Anybody else noticed it unavailable? Is it made with chemicals becoming unavailable because of Iran?

Because detergent companies are a money making business.

And people believe the adverts

Isn’t it bio that bleaches your clothes?

No, bio powder uses enzymes to break down dirt and stains
Non bio has oxy bleach in it

As long as the final rinse is adequate it doesn't make much difference. Short cycles are rubbish, but eco washes take forever

God I hate laundry 😂

Quit a lot of bio powder, eg ariel and surf, also have oxygen bleach in. The only ones that don't tend to be Daz and those marketed for colours.

I’ve switched to eco laundry sheets bloody love them, found some bio ones for stinky sportswear.

Green sheets lavender are my favourite

We buy Lidl’s non-bio powder and I haven’t noticed an issue.

I thought it was liquid that was bad for washing machines?

Yes it is. It sludges up machines. Powder is far better.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 19:19

I only ever used liquid when my mum used it years ago. She used to use powder and I thought the liquid was good and maybe better for the machine. I’m in a hard water area, don’t know if that makes a difference.

What about the capsules are they bad for you too?

Only if you eat them.

they contain very concentrated liquid. which is one of the reasons they are so dangerous when children get their hands on them.

they still don't wash as well as powder.

dc uses them in student accomodation as dc can just take what's needed.

Thanks everybody! I stand corrected about the powder v liquid thing

I don't use capsules because of plastic packaging. I use non bio as it's supposed to be more environmentally friendly in terms of not adding enzymes etc to waterways

I guess whatever method we all use we're contributing to chemical loads in all sorts of ways; to us and the environment.

I shall continue my quest. Basically for us it comes down to cost really

🤣

I should really use the plastic bag liquid refills but I don’t often see them around. Fairy used to do one.

Sadly, it has happened, as they look like sweeties, which is why they're in lockable boxes, now.

You can get little sheets, no idea if they work.

whereistheheatwave · Today 21:37

Powder far better, according to the guy who maintains our appliances

I bought a pack of LabCo sheets for going on holiday , no spills . I use half a sheet for a regular load .
They work fine but ££ for regular use

Now I know why my SIL changed from them to powder (Waitrose non bio).

The Dr Beckmann laundry sheets are really good. I bought some non-bio ones because I wanted to wash some of DGS’s bits but didn’t want a box of powder or a bottle of liquid hanging about. You can split them and I find half a one sufficient. I’ve started doing my towels and bedding in them and they come out really soft. I’m tempted to give the bio ones a go.
