Where's all the own brand non-bio gone?

Signoritawhocansway · Yesterday 18:34

Last week on my Asda shop there was no own brand non bio liquid available. This week in Morrisons, same again. I don't want to buy persil or fairy. I don't want capsules or tablets or powder, I want liquid, as I can adjust the dosing more easily; powder isn't good long term for the machine.

This is probably in the running for the most boring thread ever! Anybody else noticed it unavailable? Is it made with chemicals becoming unavailable because of Iran?

It's liquid which gunks the machine up. Powder does the opposite.

Cleaning cycle on the first of the month , it goes on at 90c , I use Ecover tablets or white vinegar if I run out .
Clears the gunk ! Grin

My washing machine has an auto dose function which would not even work with powder.

Larrythecatforpm · Today 07:10

I brought tescos own brand bio just the other day. Liquid does damage the machine though.

LetMeGoogleThat · Today 07:16

Lidl and Aldi both do a decent one.

Happytaytos · Today 07:17

Liquid knackers the machine. Convert to powder.

I have not been able to find bio own branded powder in Asda or Tesco for months now. I don’t think they make it; they have non bio and then a scented bio. Lidl always have plenty though 🙂

Same here, there is never any in Sainsbury’s either.

Put it straight in the drum

Always use bio D, a great brand, yes more expensive, tho very effective, I use 3 teaspoons on a standard wash.
buy it online or health food shop, all my cleaning is eco, tho

My washing machine repair guy told me liquid is fine, it’s the pods you need to avoid. I use liquid and my last machine made it to the age of 20. I do put dr Beckmann intensive cleaner in every 6 weeks.

Powder is much better for your machine . When you think that out parents washing machines lasted years as powder was the only option back then . Where about are you op? Plenty in Fife or there was in Lidl the other day

This is just not true!

TiredMagpie · Today 09:56

Both Aldis near me have plenty of it

Engineers say to use powder. 🤷‍♀️ I find it better if you put it directly into the drum though.

Very few countries use non bio, us brits are obsessed with it!

I don't use it because my clothes are mostly dark and I don't want them bleached

HoldMyWine · Today 10:33

Isn’t it bio that bleaches your clothes?

This is true, its just a marketing thing specific to the UK. I can't even think of any decent laundry powder I could buy in the Netherlands that is non-bio. I think only some wool detergents.

I use Neutral powder, which is formulated for people with eczema etc and that has enzymes in it. It doesn't have any bleach in it, only the version for whites has that.

I thought it was liquid that was bad for washing machines?

Yeah that's what a plumber told me too!

RandomMess · Today 10:41

Powder straight into the drum is best, using the drawer clogs up the pipes over time so you are rinsing with soapy water.

Non bio pouches from home bargains - £2.69 ish - highly recommend

So why is liquid sold then?

Marmalademorning · Today 11:42

It will be related to the war in Iran. Non bio washing detergents are made with petro chemicals and the shipping blockade will have had a direct impact on supply.

Tortephant · Today 11:42

Soap flakes, as cheap as anything per wash. Have a look at FrenchSoaps .co. Uk
they also do a powder

keep your machine clean with vinegar

So why is liquid sold then?

Because detergent companies are a money making business.
