Where's all the own brand non-bio gone?

Last week on my Asda shop there was no own brand non bio liquid available. This week in Morrisons, same again. I don't want to buy persil or fairy. I don't want capsules or tablets or powder, I want liquid, as I can adjust the dosing more easily; powder isn't good long term for the machine.

This is probably in the running for the most boring thread ever! Anybody else noticed it unavailable? Is it made with chemicals becoming unavailable because of Iran?

Sainsbury’s in my area, East of England, hasn’t had any issues. I got a large bottle this morning.

I thought it was liquid that was bad for washing machines?

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · Yesterday 20:42

It's been scarce here for months, both powder and liquid - only the scented ones available. It's really odd.

Is it just cost of living and more people buying it instead of branded ones maybe?

It is. Powder is far better for the machine.

Powder is better for the machine. It keeps it cleaner.

Anyhow, M&S do one.

Hey, check out this M&S product:

Actually I have noticed, in Asda more than any other supermarket that they dont do a lot of own brand stuff

We get our washing stuff from Aldi and Lidl

likelysuspect · Yesterday 21:08

Oh you want a bottle of liquid? we use tabs

Buttons0522 · Yesterday 21:09

I have not been able to find bio own branded powder in Asda or Tesco for months now. I don’t think they make it; they have non bio and then a scented bio. Lidl always have plenty though 🙂

MissyB1 · Yesterday 21:10

Aldi do one, it’s great.

My repair man says we should always use powder. Liquid damages the machine.

I had no idea powder was better for the machine. Thanks for that fact. I tend to get waitrose own label after years of buying persil. I’d recommend it.

HoraceCope · Yesterday 21:11

my local sainsburys didnt have own brand liquid bio/colour
quite annoying.

i do like waitrose own brand also

HoraceCope · Yesterday 21:12

i think the supermarkets want us to buy the tablets which i imagine cost more per kg

beigetriangle · Yesterday 21:19

lidl or aldi own brands are decent.
I have never liked the smell of liquids for a reason (maybe because we use it exclusively for stinky gym stuff as that apparently is better for the plastic fibres)

GardenTable · Yesterday 21:20

My local Sainsbury's had it this week.

Sainsbury’s

I got Sainsbury’s non bio liquid the other week as it was on offer.

The waitrose own brand powder is excellent. Most of the non-bio powders stink but it has a nice subtle scent.

FairViewRosie25 · Yesterday 22:05

Why is powder better? Thought it gunked up everything

Q2C4 · Yesterday 22:10

Lots of non bio liquid in Lidl…. But if you want bio for colours I recommend Aldi as Lidl stopped doing their version for some reason.

It's liquid which gunks the machine up. Powder does the opposite.

PickAChew · Yesterday 22:23

Yep, powder can cake up in the drawer but it doesn't encourage the stinky slime that you get with liquid. Non-bio powder also contains an oxygen bleach while liquid usually doesn't. I've just got a new machine with a drum clean cycle and it specifies a half dose of powder with oxygen based bleach included for that cycle.

I only use that for whites and lights, with some of my daz or waitrose colour bio powder for stains. I use bio liquid at a lower temperature for my own handmade stuff as it air dries a little softer and dissolves better for short, cool cycles but that doesn't get the grease and stains out of the boys' clothes at all.

I use Sainsbury colour powder and Aldi Coconut Bio powder.

I use a tiny scoop ( a metal mouthwash cup put in a dosing ball into the drum ) add some Astonish powder or laundry liquid for DS gym gear .
(Hard water 12kg machine )

Years ago I remember my Mum using a cupfull of powder , I think now it's much more concentrated ,
