Would rising living costs make you consider online adult content work?

I have a friend who has a OF account and makes really good money from it, it’s never been something for me as I have a family and I’d be so paranoid about being found out. But she does well so I'm happy for her.

cost of living recently has hit us so hard we’re negative balance two weeks into payday and I’m starting to feel sick in the pit of my stomach thinking about our future finances.

It got me thinking, what lengths would you go to to gain more income? DF joked (sort of) that she could give me one of her ‘regulars’ who pays well (£500 per week) for content and chatting. I don’t think I’d ever do it but it did make me wonder at what point of desperation do you start having a change of heart.

Dear god no!

No.

My feet are nice…

Carriemac · 22/04/2026 13:01

No .

ExOptimist · 22/04/2026 13:01

It's prostitution. Degrading and humiliating work. In this country, with a welfare state, no one needs to be so desperate to sell their body.

ChocHotolate · 22/04/2026 13:02

I’d likely be paid to put my clothes back on

AttentionPlease · 22/04/2026 13:03

When I'm considering writhing in my scanties for some mouth-breathing perv with his flies open, things will have to be an awful lot worse than they are now...

EarthlyNightshade · 22/04/2026 13:04

I thought DF was dear father so I was even more agog!

No, I'd rather the other Mumsnet favourite, go on benefits!

ChloeCannotCanCan · 22/04/2026 13:05

No, it’s degrading and cheapens us all. It should not be seen as some benign way for women to make some extra cash FFS.

I do agree it’s degrading. I think I’d rather sell my teeth.. les miserables style

As the others have said, I'd rather be on benefits than be on only fans.

Same here. I'm fat, ugly and old. I wouldn't have done it when I was younger, either.

NoisyHiker · 22/04/2026 13:47

No.

I'd rather be living in a tent, and I hate camping.

If I was completely unable to work or feed my children for some reason, I would resort to crime before I resorted to prostitution.

wildgreyseas · 22/04/2026 13:48

If I was attractive, yes.

CraftyNavySeal · 22/04/2026 13:51

No, the average OF account makes something like £100 total. Very few people make good money from it and then end up with the embarrassment of people they know seeing them.

You either have to be very niche or already have lots of social media followers.

littleburn · 22/04/2026 14:07

For £2k a month that ‘content and chatting’ must be pretty … thorough.

awayhay · 22/04/2026 14:23

It has crossed my mind, but I don’t think I’m pretty enough or toned enough to make much money.

I know of someone who is on it that has made a fair few thousand through sending pics/video & generally chatting to a couple of Men.

There is also a girl I was in school with on my instagram & it’s well know she’s on OF. It looks like she has made an absolute fortune. All of her pictures are of her on holiday in loads of different places, pics of amazing food, drinks by the pool etc. I mean obviously the pics could be completely fake or massively exaggerated, or she could be hundreds of thousands of pounds in debt. She also managed to buy a house outright from it. I don’t believe everything I see online though, so who knows.

But yes, if I felt like I had something to offer then I would definitely be on there making money and not having to work particularly hard.

RipleyGreen · 23/04/2026 15:55

If I had pretty feet I’d do it in a heartbeat.

CeciliaMars · 23/04/2026 16:25

No one would pay to see this… they might pay me to put it away.

MrsTravelBug · 23/04/2026 19:43

I have nice feet but not the tech savvy or anything to do this and I think it’s such a saturated market you would have to be either drop dead gorgeous or going to some extremes in content to make any money.

cantstopthinkingaboutit2 · 23/04/2026 19:55

No I wouldn’t. And it’s actually quite difficult to make good money from Onlyfans, you can’t just put a few videos up and expect they money to pour in. The people doing it have to continually market themselves as they’re competing against thousands of other people doing the same thing. Being good looking isn’t enough; the people who make serious money have a ‘niche’.

It’s why platforms like X are full of onlyfans people trying to direct people to their pages. And there’s a high chance of someone you know seeing you on there. Is it really worth your dignity to maybe earn a few pennies?

IDontHateRainbows · 23/04/2026 20:04

If i was literally street homeless and starving.. although isn't it the case these days that police only arrest shop lifters after £200 worth of stuff so maybe that's a better option.

Lelot · 23/04/2026 20:05

The average OF creator earns around three pounds a day.
