Hi. Does anyone know if I can get a food bank referral over the bank holiday weekend? Have got some tinned peas and 2x squares of weetabix in the house…

No need for a food bank referral, just look at the Olio app. There'll be lots of food posted when the local shops close tonight.
Otherwise try your local church or community centre as many have links to food banks or offer their own service.

Depends on your local services. Why have you left it until an hour after food banks generally shut on a normal working day to start thinking about it? Google food banks near you and see if anyone is still open

Thank you! I’m keeping an eye and hoping something is close enough for me to walk to!!

. I didn’t realise what day it was, I’ve had a non stop week with a family emergency so it didn’t click

If you can’t find anything, ring or message your nearest church. Even if they don’t have a Foodbank themselves, the minister will know someone or somewhere.

Olio seems to be charging for membership these days…

Thank you! Do you know if you have to attend the church?

No, you don’t have to

I doubt any are open over a bank holiday. Why didn't you think about this yesterday?

Have you googled your local foodbanks now? Are any open this weekend?

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 02/04/2026 18:31

Don’t you have a friend or family member that will give or loan you money? No credit card?

If you have children and really can’t get food for them, then you’ll need to phone social services and they’ll organise something for you.

Can’t you go to your grandmother’s house and take some food from there?

No. She’s in a care home?

Oh, odd that it was such an emergency if she lives in a care home.

Womblingmerrily · 02/04/2026 19:38

So your grandmother went from a care home into a hospital - which is a pretty common event and this has stopped you from noticing you have no food and no money all week.

As said before if you have children you would have to call social services - if it's just you, you are going to have to seek help from friends if you have no family.

This is always mentioned on these types of threads but if you live anywhere near a Sikh temple they offer free hot vegetarian meals and some are open 24/7. They are open to anyone, regardless of faith or background. Just Google “Sikh temple near me” to see if there is one in your locality.
