Making the most of cheap electricity rates

We've just moved to Octopus Go as have a new electric car and I want to make the most of the cheap electricity - we currently use about 70% standard and 30% cheap.

I run the dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine overnight which only costs about 40p (!) all in, but what else can I do to maximise the cheaper rate? We pay about £150 a month for electric alone.

You could heat the hot water using an immersion heater if you have one. Or if you have any form of electric heating, programme that to come on in the early morning.

A home battery works well with an EV as you can charge it at the overnight rate and then use it to cover your daytime use so you can get close to 100% at the cheap rate. But that’s more initial outlay obviously.

I put the immersion heater on when electricity is very cheap as I’m on a dynamic tariff. I also try to avoid cooking during peak hours.
You could put food in the slow cooker overnight
